I'm accumulating all the parts to basically rebuild my front end when I install my lunchbox locker. Among those are a pair of supposed OEM bump stop bolts - I bought them because they were available and already had the rounded heads on them that @mrblaine recommends.
So - I also bought some lock nuts - with flanges that I shouldn't have, but whatever. Figured that the nuts would stay where I put them, so today, I decided to get the new bumpstop bolt/nut assy calibrated to what's already on the Jeep.
Got it done - but the new bolts are shorter than the old bolts so they're not going to thread in as far - do I care?
As an aside, and why the flange nuts were a bad idea is that the new steering knuckles are much thicker in the area where these bolts go in, and so there's a half-well to work around. That's why the flange is now on upside down - and the flange is ground off of one of the nuts because even that wouldn't fit - non-OEM steering knuckle, vs upside down but no grinding needed because the half-well is slightly larger on the OEM knuckle on the other side. The old knuckles don't have a well at all - much thinner. *shrug*
