I have a 2002 Wrangler TJ. I purchased used. It does not have a Subwoofer in the center console where it should be. It has a fuse listed for the subwoofer.
I want to put one in and would like to know what kind and what I would need. Not sure if it had wiring either. I need a good sound and not break the bank.
 
You're actually better off without the factory subwoofer pre-installed, as it's a gigantic piece of crap (really, it is).

If you get that amp and sub mentioned in the thread, it will fit where the factory one should go, pair up with an aftermarket head unit, and give you an amazing bass sound quality. I can't stress enough how much of a massive improvement that subwoofer and amp setup were over the stock sub / amp combo.

That's what I would recommend if I were you.

Check out the Sound Ordinance P-8PTD. I will fit basically under your rear seat as-is, with only an 1" sticking out due to the downward taper of the rear seat. If you put 1" spacers under the rear seat, the sub is totally hidden and thumps like no tomorrow. Also, IT'S CHEAP.

I have one installed in my 2001 TJ Sport and I really couldn't be happier.
 
This is how I role. A long stroke Tang Band 6.5" neo magnet sub in a PVC enclosure.

This interesting...do you have any photos of this, by chance? I'm trying to find a compact powered subwoofer that will fit under the rear seat, but nothing appears to fit. The Rockville RW8CA is only 2.7" thick, but when you put something that size under the rear seat, the seat won't sit flat on the floor.

I didn't take any pictures as I decided on mounting the sub inside the console. However, I can tell you that if you buy the P-8PTD sub and slide it under the middle of your rear seat, the sub will hit the back of the seat with about 1" of sub sticking out from under the rear seat. So, if you are willing to lift your rear seat about 1", you will be able to fully hide the sub underneath.
 
Thanks for the tip. I've been thinking lately about going with the P-8PTD too, so this is a point in their favor.

I honestly don't know how I would even begin to lift the rear seat. I've already broken 2 bolts trying to remove the rear seat pivot brackets. I think I could live with the sub sticking out the back a bit as long as the sub will mostly fit under.

Yeah, the rear seat bolts are a PITA to remove. If you are thinking about doing this, you're probably going to be time and hassle ahead to remove the existing bolts, drill out the busted stuff and then get some fresh Grade 8 bolts + anti-seize from the hardware store. Also, you are going to need to pull back the carpet to run the wires for the sub, which means you will likely be forced to lift the rear seat anyways. It will be a pain, but a bad day in the garage wrenching on the TJ beats a good day at the office every time! :)

Check out my build page for pictures. I have the Sound Ordnance under my back seat and used the hollow in the console for an amp to run the sound bar and dash speakers. I’m more than happy with my $500 sound system.

The B8PTD fits under my rear seat with no exposure and no spacers.

So… you mounted the SO sub in the center console where the factory sub should go? Did you mount it with it enclosure or did you take it apart to fit?
