Switching back to the factory air filter

That wire, to the right of your circle, that is going into the large k&n hose, it has one of those plastic snap connectors...will this go into the factory set up ok, doesn't need to be longer or get a new one?
That wire is actually the throttle body accelerator pedal cable. It passes underneath the large plastic air intake tube.

Whenever you get time would someone please post a photo of their 2005 whole air filter assembly, with hose to box. I think it will help give me a great guide on what goes where when I find the factory parts.
Thank you!

The circled wire and connector appears to be factory still. It will plug into the back side of the factory tube. See my photo above.

Ah, thanks for pointing out the hose!
What is that little elbow, #12?
I was looking and I think I only found these for 2004 years as well
You won’t need #12 for your model. The hose I linked is basically the same thing for your model. In the earlier models, the PCV elbow connects to the tube rather than to the box.

It took two prefilters. The first layer was K&N's Precharger which fit so loosely it allowed dust to flow in around it. That's K&N for ya! I was forced to add a foam Unifilter to hold the Outerwears closer to the base K&N so it wouldn't leak in dust.

Thank you for posting pics. I hope I'm not too, late mine is starting to make noise, hopefully the filter just needs cleaning, that's exactly where the sound is coming from. Will take filter off and listen without it on.

You would be wise to go back to the stock air cleaner box. It won't take much time or effort once you obtain a stock box. Just make sure you get the correct box and tube for your model year. Looks like you have a 2005, so you will need to get the 05-06 box with the sensor on the back of the tube. You'll also need to get one of these if the K&N setup doesn't fit: https://www.ebay.com/itm/3019953936...d=link&campid=5337789113&toolid=20001&mkevt=1

You'll probably need to remove a few clamps on the K&N setup, plus a couple bolts that hold it to the right side fender. Stock box will be replaced in a similar manner, with a few bolts on the fender and a clamp on either side of the tube.
When you mention,"get 05-06 box with sensor on back of tube"
Where is this sensor? Just making sure

I gave away the stock air box on my old Jeep to a member on another forum when I switched to a AEM dry filter. He still has it 10 years later (the Jeep and the air box).:)

I ordered box and tube from what supposed to be 2005. They didn't have tube listed on website, just box but when I called they said they had my year tube. All I seen on their site was. 97-04 setup. When I received it there is no sensor on the top of air box. There is on the big tube, but there also is a sensor on previous years. Called seller he says it's just the wrong lid and he'll send me another. Is it my imagination or are the big tubes different lengths in the previous years before 2005? Will lid fit on another year box?
Also on the tube, the sensor has an inny not an outy, ha. Meaning where the IAT sensor goes, all the tubes I seen for sale it's like a nipple on there that accepts the sensor clip

Ok, sorry y'all, I looked at the sae #s and they match my year except for the cover. Which he'll send me. My question is, is this plug hole on the tube ok? Does the IAT sensor on aftermarket tube just twist out?
Thank you!!!

Yes just twist it out, mine had a rubber grommet as well. Didn’t need it for the stock box

After reading through this thread, I'm wondering if I really want to change my intake to a cold air intake... Sounds like it may cause more issues than it helps...

The tube coming out of the front of the box on mine is missing, should I just replace it or go with a different (non-K&N) brand cold air intake?
