My new to me jeep has an SYE and the seal is leaking from the rear shaft , just curious if a regular seal fits this or if I need a special seal for it . It’s also leaking gear oil so that’s something else I will be changing out it’s a fresh rebuild but looks like they didn’t know it was atf all seals are brand new and it’s clean clean. But between the gear oil and the seal leak I’ll be busy. Thanks in advance

I just replaced that seal as well as the one between the sye extension housing and the transfer case just a week ago. I used a Timken 472572 seal for the end near the yoke and you can use RTV for the SYE housing. I used a gasket for that one myself. I took the housing off so I could take the seal off, clean everything and put it back together without the output shaft in the way.

Thanks for the part number , the whole transfer was rebuilt last month and shows it but that seal is either bad or they didn’t use RTV on the shaft
