I have a machine shop and I want to make my own tail lights that are flush mounted.
My question is what are your favorite style tail lights? Please post photos so I can get some ideas.I was thinking of maybe doing a combination of lights/backup lights.
Thanks in advance!!

I run a surface mount led I picked up on Amazon. On my phone atm or I'd post a pic. I dig the Savvy lights but they are too spendy for me. I think something like the Savvy but round would be bitchin.

What is your plan for the light itself? Are you going to use a current light and frame it?

No I am going to make my own frame, I want to go to an LED light. Maybe a two piece Red upper for brakes and turn signals then the lower white for backup lights. Here is what I made for my Mustang

I run these and they are super bright. The only down side to them is no side maker.

Yes, that is the only downside. It doesn't bother me though. I'm always happy when I put it in reverse, because I can really see well behind me without the actual need for extra lights in the back.

Any of you 'youngsters' ever seen a '59 Cadillac ?
These are the ultimate taillights ....
They'll bolt right on ...
You'll be the coolest dude in town.
I'd love to do that but they would need to be frenched or they'd get knocked off on the trail

Ok so I bought the lights, Same lenses as what they use in the Warrior lights they sell for $365 https://www.quadratec.com/products/12525_6029_07.htm
I was able to blow up the photo and find the lights only for $20 and $30 each.

I also ordered a license plate light as well

And the new flasher.
My goal is to make two custom flush mount enclosuers in place of the stock lights.
I might need a little help on the wiring part of this. But thought I saw on another thread the color codes.
I'll keep you updated in a few weeks when everything comes in and I have designed the enclosures.
Hell I might just market these bad boys when they are finished.

Not the shape you're after but I did want to throw the idea of amber turn signals out there. I have flush mounted round lights with an amber turn signal in the center. Mine also have smoked lenses. I really like the look of amber turn signals and its not something you see very often on jeeps.

I want to pick up a set of the export Wrangler tail lights with the amber section in them. There's a place just south of me that sells 'em at $38 per side, if I recall. Just a little different, but not too. While they say they "don't fit" U.S. models, I'm fairly certain they're referring to the wiring of the amber turn signal/red running lights/stop lights.

Try this link for the tail lights.

The kit comes with a hole saw but its useless. I ended up using a 1mm cutoff wheel to get a rough circle then I hit it with a carbide burr to round it out.

Yes the wiring is different. I ran a six wire harness from the front back for the turn signals and power for my reverse light. I mounted a relay on the drivers side behind the light using the factory reverse power wire as a trigger for the led reverse light. I also ran a shared ground wire through the harness to a solid ground instead of grounding each light separately with self tappers.
