My tailgate ('04) is sagging. Just wanted to see what people use for aftermarket hinges. I am looking at a set of Kentrol or Rugged Ridge. I also see Crown and Taylor make a set. TIA!

I've got the rugged ridge kit... Very sturdy and smooth pivots! I'm actually taking the kit off this week to install a bumper/swingout combo.

How big is your spare? I personally like the exogate/MoRyde system if you’re running something bigger and don’t want a swing out. It’s likely overkill if you don’t have 33”+ tires though.

I’d remove the spare tire from the tailgate at least from the time being and throw it in the trunk! I’d suggest a swingout tire carrier personally. Not only will it fix your issue but it’s a nice excuse to get a new bumper in the rear as well. They can be had for almost the same price as aftermarket hinges or braces I believe.
I personally suggest the Exogate / MORryde tailgate / hinges. Your tailgate will never sag again. Talk about some seriously beefy hinges!
Yeah the whole exogate system is overkill for 31”s. Probably just the rugged ridge would do well for you, never heard of the kentrol.
Edit: It looks like you can just the exogate hinges from gr8tops for $150 which isn’t bad depending on your budget.

It is real easy to loosen 4 bolts, lift the tailgate, tighten the bolts.

I love my Exogate.
The only issue is that I cannot currently use my Kargo Master Congo cage roof rack with it now.
(Hoping to figure out an easy way to mod the rack to allow the use of both).

I bought a set of Kentrol hood hinges a while back. They started chipping pretty early. Unless they've changed their manufacturing practices recently, I'd steer clear of them.

This one may be overkill for a 31" tire, but it works great and is extremely smooth while allowing the gate to swing out wider.

I'm sorry for being so clueless but I'm having this issue. Which bolts need to be loosening and re-tightened?
Have you removed the spare and checked for play in the hinges?
As far as adjusting, most start with the four that go into the tailgate.
You may also need to adjust the latch pin.
This is what I put on my LJ when I moved up to 32” tires. My hinges were shot and the stock spare tire carrier was pretty rusty. I’m really impressed with the quality of it and it was really easy to install.
