The 90's

That's wild. I love music, like I'd rather listen to something than watch it. At those ages, if I was stationary, I was usually outside in the garage with the radio playing either classic rock (Clapton, Skynyrd, CCR, Zep etc.) or it was the new (at that time) stuff like Green Day.

Speaking of that, I still have about a dozen CDs from 20+ years ago, just a fraction of what I bought back then, but I've recently been replacing the originals with new. I've also started buying CDs again. I find that I enjoy listening to an entire album and finding those deep tracks, rather than constantly jumping around with a mixed play list all the time.

I was really into building my CD collection back then. I had over 800 at one point. A Friday or Saturday night out in the 90's might have included going to multiple used CD shops.

A few years ago my wife was doing a yard sale and asked if she could sell some of my CD's. I initially told her yes. Then happened to be outside when someone asked how much. They were $1, so I promptly took all my CD's back inside lol. For storage issues, we settled on me throwing out the jewel cases and moving them all to binders.

I recently got my DD audio system done and it was pointed out by the shop that a lot of my rips are poor quality. So might need to re-do many of my favorites using something loss-less instead of poor quality MP3. That will be in interesting project since I don't have much left that even has a CD player. One PC that's connected to my TV, not in the best spot. I'm an IT guy and have way too many older laptops. I might have to rebuild one just for ripping CD's.

Anyone have a ripping app they like for loss-less? I know some are using iTunes.

That's a lot. I might have had up to 100 at one point. One of my brothers-in-law did the whole DJ thing for a while in the '90s. When they moved a few years ago, they trimmed all the fat, and his CD collection was a bunch of fat. They estimated the stack to be 7,000-10,000. He had a 15' long shelving unit holding most of it.

Most of my cars have a CD player, but none of my computers have a disc reader/writer. I haven't burned a CD since the iPod and smartphones took over, but now that I'm adding them back, it'd be nice to be able to. Let me know what you figure out.

I'm sure you all heard about Jane's Addiction: They were doing a tour and Perry lost his shit and attacked Dave Navarro, ending that show and the tour. What a shame. I didn't have tickets, but was still thinking of going. They were a great live band. Saw them at a few small venues back in the 90's and they were always awesome.

Still going to the Oingo Boingo Former Members band in early November. The Cult on 9/29. Looking forward to those shows.

A friend just saw Green Day, Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid a week ago in LA (Sofi). He said the sound sucked at the venue for the nose bleed seats and also said Smashing Pumpkins was a huge disappointment, just boring on stage.

How was the stage set up? I heard that complaint a lot about Metallica's recent tour and I watch a sound engineer break it down on YouTube about how much attention has to go into the speaker set up to make the sound work when the audience surrounds the band vs a traditional stage layout. Really interesting stuff and it made sense.

We saw Alanis Morissette about a month ago or so at Ball Arena here in Denver. Great show and its hard to tell the difference between her live version and album version.

I went to the recent Metallica show and it was good. I like their stage setup for people not on the floor and for people in the snake pit.

For this one I bought the cheapest seats and the night before they changed our seats to lower level for an unobstructed view.

Lars played drums at 4 different locations so even on the floor they got close at some point no matter where they were.

The entire stadium was vibrating.

I also went to their opening concert 8 years ago at the same stadium and they had a stage on one end I was on the floor for that. It was incredible but both have their benefits.

Metallica, man I was such a huge fan but don’t think I could ever see them again. I’ve still got this in the box of stuff I wouldn’t let my mom (or now my wife) throw away. Tickets were an 18th bday present.

Yep, saw the same show here. Love their 90s stuff cranked up with the widows down. Glad I got to see their show but doubt I’d see them again.

Just from your image I can see they addressed the issues. They've gone with vertical speaker arrays pointing at different directions so any audience member only has one array pointed at them. The early shows had big pods on top of the video towers so everybody that was mid-level or higher had multiple speakers pointed at them from vastly different distances, so they were hearing every note 4 times and mudding everything up.

Glad they got it sorted.

I've got my pit ticket from Texas Stadium in 2003 (Linkin park, limp Bizkit, Deftones and mudvayne opened). It was a 20th birthday present from the girl I was with at the time. Best concert I ever went to. The concert was a couple weeks before my actual birthday, but it was on Het's 40th, which I thought was pretty cool.

Saw them again in Tulsa during the Death Magnetic tour. Still a great show but I had to buy my own tickets so I was in low level seats, and it was in an arena instead of a stadium.

They are playing in Atlanta June 3rd and it's a 1 night show instead of a 2 show no repeat weekend like what they had here.

Rammstein had a similar setup as far as speaker arrays but they didn't have a central stage, I was on the floor for that. Great concert/show although I don't speak German.

This one popped up on my spotify today. I've only started listening to the tragically hip probably in the last few years. I like a lot of what they put out. This one is pretty haunting storytelling...

First time I've ever heard any of their stuff. Lead singer's voice reminds me of the lead singer's voice in the band "Live" when he starts getting into it...

I remember that one being on the radio a lot when I was a kid. (y) I haven't heard it in a while.
