The 90's

We talked about this in the 80s thread how while I was "in it" I didn't really appreciate it but now I realize some of my favorite music came out of the 90s.

Another thing I'm realizing is how much 90s music videos share a certain aesthetic, and it's fun to relive the progression of the alternative scene from the serious tone of grunge (itself a pendulum response to the excesses of glam rock) to getting goofy again by the second half of the decade. Weezer was exactly what we needed in 1994.

Man, I really do love 90s alternative rock.

The tribute

On January 15, 2018, O'Riordan — who was in London for a recording session for her side project's second album, left a voice message to Waite during that night, where she asked him to come in the studio later that morning, and to listen to her vocals on the cover of Bad Wolves. O'Riordan died prior to recording it.

I remember this one!

My wife and I have seen Darius Rucker live a few times, he plays more Hootie songs than he does his country and it is always a fun nostalgic throw back. Same with Matchbox20, I think we've seen him three times now and he plays a ton of songs from the Yourself or Someone Like You album.

The 90's was a transition time, you had the end of most good rock. Rap became more mainstream.

But everything began transitioning into formulaic pop style music, country probably took that hit the hardest.

This threads too soft, needs some METAL!!!

I was getting into nu metal at the end of the decade, but just like with 80s metal, i was more into the bands that had something to say more than just trying to offend as many suburban moms as possible (which is how I would describe Korn and Limp Bizkit).

(I was going for Prison Song but forgot it was on 2001's Toxicity rather than the 1998 self titled...)

These guys first record went sooo hard....too bad this song didn't get a video.

"I Alone" by Live is an all-time favorite of mine. The album "Throwing Copper", which features this song, is incredible.

I like Metallica's Black album and Unforgiven, but S&M took all their stuff to a way higher level. Something about that orchestra just seems right.

Load and Reload get a lot of hate but if you took them out of the context of coming from Metallica and the attached expectations, they're actually still pretty dang good. The Outlaw Torn is fantastic, and the S&M version is even better.
