This Jeep makes an impact

This is how I feel today.... two piece lugs are terrible. Will be upgrading lug nuts ASAP and possibly replacing both front wheel hubs. All other lugs are loose and ready to put the Jeep on Jack stands. Trying to get the axles out this weekend but this one lug is holding me up lol.

Decided to take a break last night on the lug nut issue until my Buddy can come over to help me out.

started working on the rear this morning and I snapped the two upper shock mount bolts on the passenger side. I love these jeeps but they can definitely be a pain sometimes.

Working on trying to get the axles and suspension out this weekend.

Pulled the inner fenders earlier and was pretty pleased with what was behind them. Everything just needs a solid cleaning/detail.

So far, my assumption has been correct that the axles are the only surface rust for the most part on the entire Jeep. Frame and tub supports are clean. Just giving them a refresh. Axles will be a night and day difference here soon and no one will ever know they ever had surface rust to begin with once I’m done with it.

Ready to get it done so I can get it back on the road and enjoy it more! Loving this Jeep so far.

Big day today!! I love that you can take a Jeep apart from the frame down in a solid days worth of work. Not very many vehicles you can do that with in your own garage with a buddy.

next thing to do is get some parts ordered, power wash the in every nook and cranny, start scuffing up some areas and get the frame painted while the axles and other parts are being sand blasted/painted by my uncle.

I hope to have this Jeep back together by Janruary if all goes well because I have a baby due at the beginning of February.

Well the axles and other parts are off to get blasted and painted. The goal is to have the Jeep back together by the end of Thanksgiving weekend. only thing that may not be on the Jeep is the Mopar rear corner armor. I think I’m going to rivet them on but haven’t mocked the up yet.

Here is all the parts I’m getting ordered this week to get it back together. Also going to relocate the locker pumps under the hood in the process. I found @Chris ’s write up which helped a lot!

Front wheel hubs
Fuel pump
(snapped a line when we dropped the tank)

Power Stop Brakes
Bilstein shocks
Daystar front/rear leveling kit
(Had an aluminum 1 inch front spacer on it already. Would rather have poly urethane. That and the corner armor will be heavier in the rear and the spacers should help).

Teraflex sway bar links - front/rear
Crown Automotive rear track bar
(Bushings were shot and it’s cheaper to just buy the fully track bar)
Axle tube seal kit
Teraflex steering stabilizer
Stainless steel brake lines
2 cans of VHT Chassis paint
Spicer DANA Drive shaft rebuild kit
Fel-pro oil pan seal
Fel-pro rear main seal

The end goal is to add the following Savvy parts to the build but while we are saving for these items, the above parts will keep the Jeep on the road while we make a few upgrades along the way. Since we aren’t wanting to upgrade the suspension and we have all the heavy Mopar accessories, I figured we’d try to save some weight while adding some strength to the Jeep in the process.

Aluminum belly up skid plate
Body lift/motor mount lift
Aluminum gas tank skid plate
Savvy aluminum control arms
Savvy aluminum steering

Also, my uncle just got done building a bracket to mount underneath the Mopar bumper for his Jeep to mount the tow bar. He is going to make one for us too! As you see, he has a pretty awesome set up lol.

Will be nice to flat tow the Jeep at any point in time if wanted/needed!

Got the frame cleaned up and the axles, skid plates, and suspension parts sand blasted and painted. I didn’t worry too much about cleaning up the body bolts since we will plan on doing a tummy tuck and will be replacing them in the near future.

All “Phase 1” parts should be in by Saturday and will hopefully have the Jeep back together and on the road by Sunday! Getting pretty excited about it!

Did I miss what was used to paint the axles? Looks nice.
I used VHT chassis and roll bar paint on the frame. I cleaned and degreased everything thoroughly before painting. Even used a wire brush in some areas.

My uncle owns a shop that builds diesel trailers. He sand blasted the axles, skid plates, springs, steering. And a few other pieces. They have a zinc coating rust prohibitive spray that they use before applying their chassis paint. The chassis paint they use is some really high quality thick stuff too. When he sells a trailer, it never comes back for rust or paint issues. He makes sure of that.

the parts he painted came out a little glossy but I’m sure the first puddle I drive through and some roads grime will tone it down some. Everything is turning out really nice so far.

Got a lot done today!

Rear main seal, new oil pan/oil pan seal, new fuel pump/gas tank installed, axles are in, and the locker pumps have been relocated under the hood.

My buddy is taking the front axle shafts and both driveshafts to rebuild for me tomorrow and coming back Sunday to help me button everything up. Excited to have the Jeep back on the road!

Got everything put back together today. Filled it up with gas, got an alignment, a car wash, and put some miles on it.

Feels great! Just waiting on the front Bilstein shocks, and the flat bar to finish mounting the locker pumps under the hood.

Next phase is to get a few dents popped out of the hood, get the half doors painted, and get the AEV rims mounted with new tires. This Jeep is near perfect right now! Seeing how everything came out today made all of the work put in worth it!
