Made my own suction dredge for gold prospecting. The hose will discharge into my sluice box. Total length is about 5ft so I won’t have to bend over all day and kill my back. This will make getting down to the bottom of holes and into rock cracks easier. Best part is......it makes very little noise! Now I gotta get out there before the rain and gets colder.

If you have Netflix, be sure to check out "The Ballad of Buster Scrugs". One of the mini-stories has to do with a grizzled prospector looking for gold that you'll appreciate.

If you are willing to to walk in 27 miles with your equipment, I can show you a vein of quarts that is 700- 1000 feet or so down the face of a 3000 footsheer cliff. Its too much work for me to be fun and I am terrified of heights. I also have 75 acres in Nevada you can go poke around on, there are a few dozen mines above my place, one is across the street. I own the bottom of a canyon for a quarter mile. Tim

Sounds like a lot of fun!

You want to go? the nevada area is still one of the few dark skies areas left in the country, elevation is 5700 msl, the alaska thing I would have to borrow and airplane to show you. Its up a glacial valley that is 30 miles from the nearest paved road, its up above an abandon coal mine.
I am working on getting a camp set up this summer, bought a small diesel tractor with a box scraper and front end loader, not fast and it only sips fuel. I hope to scrape some spots off so I can set up tents and build a fire pit. There is water in the area but I will have to work on improving a spring. Any way, its open to anyone who is able to go out, wants to play and cleans up after themselves. Its located about 40 miles from the Bonneville salt flats just north of I-80

What part of Nevada are you in, I hunt perishing county area and up into winnamucca with metal detectors from time to time. Ever run a detector on your land, Let me know if you want to hunt sometime when you are out there a detector might be worth trying depending on the history.

Look at 8 miles east of Montello, specifically for Regulator canyon on the topographical maps, here is a google earth image. We could look around with a metal detector. Tim

That looks very interesting. I spent a lot of time 60 miles north of Elko guiding Mule deer hunts. I like exploring the Nevada back country.
Also went out in the Wells Nevada area with the Rzr.
Went in google maps but can't find the area of your property. Can't zoom in or out on your google earth map link.

If I didn't have 2 young kids and a pregnant wife, I'd be there in a heartbeat, no kidding! I'll keep this in mind though, it's very generous of you!

I’ll start doing a little research this winter and see what pops up, gold deposits have been found in the area, but not much data on production or quality, to Metal detect for gold it has to be present in a form big enough to register, that really narrows down potential locations to detect. Plus for

this spot because it is hard to get into, if there are detectable placers you get a chance at virgin ground,.

Just bring a tent, water and a good 4x4...if it is too dry, no fires though..I cant afford to burn a mountain down, the last fire in the area was 230,000 acres

Tim, thank you very generous to offer access, hope we can meet up and nugget shoot next year sometime. A little group hunt and be fun to explore some new territory it’s really pretty in the Nevada outback away from everything I think. Also, I can throw an extra detector and pick in the Jeep too, is there running water or is the area all dry?

The friends I hunt with, clubs and groups I know follow really strict code about leaving an area untouched when you leave, no trash, fill all dig holes, leave gates as you find them. One of my hunting buddies is a horse doctor and I’ve hunted a little on some of his customers land it’s good picking up metal scraps so the livestock aren’t as likely to accidentally eat it when grazing, we all do our best to protect the hobby.

I’m not into building outdoor fires so not to worry there, I worked 30 years in the fire department and know the risks very well.

Last time out detecting a club claim around 20 miles west of mill city I stopped in at a little trailer in the desert to chat with peg leg John. If you don’t know John he’s an old miner and n Nevada legend and landmark, he is getting up in years and now spends most of his time hunting crystals. Good guy to see if you want to buy some crystals hear a few stories and he might even point you in the direction to look for gold (might) if you ask nice. Anyway I digress, John was telling me there had been a discovery channel crew filming a couple guys hard rock mining for a new tv show. I didn’t drive exactly up that way on this trip so didn’t see anything going on, have to wait an see if it makes it to air and if it does see if they find much. The desert is riddled with deep empty mine shafts, probably something left in a few if willing to take the risk.

There is a spring on the other side of the mountain and I have to do some digging to get to water at my place. Montello has water and an excellent 9 oz burger, tots, Keroke on Saturday nights, and beer at the cowboy bar. The trains go through about every 30 minutes at night though...if you want to stay at the motel. Wendover has liquor, casino's and weed now. Wells, has female entertainment, Elko has a lot of everything also. Pony express trail is about 100 miles south, geode beds are on the south side of the Bonneville salt flats, north in Idaho is the City of Rocks...lots to do. Tim
