TJ steering issue

Steering wheel does not return to center, sounds like there is rubbing directly behind the wheel. It’s also much harder to turn than it should be.
If I pull the steering wheel towards me, the steering wheel becomes easy to turn and returns back to center as it should.

Check to make sure there is nothing interfering with the steering shaft itself. I had a similar problem and it turns out a piece of wood was caught between the square steering shaft and the fluid bottles. Turn right: Okay. Turn left: hard. Anyway, first step is to inspect for something obvious. I would also have someone else sit in the vehicle, with the front end raised, and turn the wheel back and forth/pull on it and turn and see what it is that is actually loose and allowing the wheel to pull in the first place.
