Hi, Finland calling. As all of you are aware, Jeeps leak when it rains. That said, I can only speak for myself. On one occasion the passenger side was flooded with water...tried various methods and finally have found one of the sources for leaking TJs...and it is our fault, not Chrysler.
1. Ensure that the water drain is not clogged. I unscrewed the metal part (cowl?) where the windshield wipers are. Then inserted a long thin metal pole down the center until I reached the street. Mine was full of debris (leaves etc). I kept poking away until all was gone and flushed with water.
2. I took three fingers and dipped them into a heavy engine grease, reached inside the engine compartment and covered the areas between the cabin and engine compartment where wires, hoses etc penetrate. This helped.
3. Suggest all TJ owners do the following: Those with soft tops, pop the levers and look in each corner where the window frame meets the top...look carefully and you might notice that the plastic vertical 'seal' (open your door and look, there is an approx 30cm black plastic seal (photo) which is removable with 3 screws)...on top there is a U shape. There is the problem. It might be crushed from when you put your hardtop on. It happened to me, and they are cracked and broken...water leaked in from there onto the floor.
For those who have the hardtop, undo the two flap locks on the window frame, and lift carefully and look, or feel, if it is broken or bent, well you better replace it unless fixable. Remove 3 screws and pull out both on driver side and passenger.
Lesson learned, be very carefully that the hard top is placed on the U on both sides, then lock it down. it is a minor detail but important. Just thought it might help...we have had two days non stop rain, and no water has leaked in. The charge per unit in Europe is about 75 euros each and very hard to find. For those people in the US...go to Jeep scrap yards and get them, a real commodity and very hard to find.
