Working on passenger side leak

Is this supposed to have a seal or be sealed with silicone
Its right in the middle below the wiper motor
What is is an air inlet?

The seal above the blower is good and water comes out the firewall where the drain is

It looks like water going in the plastic insert is draining to the back of the engine but not in to the passenger floorboard

Cowl drain. It's pretty damn cheesey. But it basically stops water from running around the valve cover as it exits the cowl.

I've lost two. They seem to bonk out at inopportune moments.

I'll probably silicone in my next one or go back to the aluminum plate with a 1/2" hose barb I rigged up a while back.

They frequently clog with dirt, leaves, acorns.

does the plastic insert just pull out?

If you seal it where does the water go that gets around it from the rain on the cowl vent?

Is that sealed from the factory or just the way it is?

It's secured behind the engine to a stud that also secures the HVAC box in the tub. So you undo that nut, and then it pops out. For mine the plastic hole failed, the nut no longer held it up, it popped out and disappeared.

If you sealed it the next exit would be through the HVAC box into the tub...soaking the passenger side foot well first followed by the driver's side.

It's just snapped in and bolted from the factory.

The photo from JKP shows it has a foam type gasket material on the outer edge.

My seal it thought meant to seal mine around the outer edge to the sheet metal not to seal the drain hole

I think I need to put silicone around the outer edge on mine?

So does any water that does not go down this drain go down to the small hose that comes out through the firewall close to the battery?

If the cowl drain is plugged, water will go down the HVAC intake when the water level gets high enough, and from there to the passenger floor.

The other hose is the HVAC box drain that drains AC condensate, or antifreeze if you have a leaky heater core.

Both of my drains seem open after a good cleaning.

Im gonna silicon the cowl drain to the sheet metal where the foam seal has dried up
and see what happens

I also put a 90 elbow on the condensate drain
