TJ's rusted frame woes....

Excited...picking up my 02 TJ today after having the rusted out trail arms cut out and replaced with Morris 4x4 Center's replacements. Anyone in the north east needing a guy...I have a guy. Reasonable pricing and quick to respond.

Mine is currently getting new body mounts welded on and gas tank skid replaced due to rust. It failed inspection. Thanks PennDot.

I hate rust.

Where in the north east? I'm in Easton, Pennsylvania. My 1997 just failed inspection. Rust on the under carriage and body mounts. Gas tank skid plate is practically gone. Need help.

You got me beat lol. Its not as bad but you can stick a pencil through spots. My frame is ok though cuz it was undercoated.

Wow, I'm extremely happy that I live in the south.

If I saw rust like that on my frame it would freak me the hell out and I would get it fixed ASAP. I'm curious to know how or why it took a failed inspection to fix it?

The vehicle was originally my kids and she went to college 2 years ago. Essentially it was sitting on her driveway for 2 years. I went to a local welding shop and will get the frame and 2 body mounts (center) repaired and the passenger rear frame as well. $1000.

I had the same areas rotting on my '98. Had to get a new frame from Jeep and replaced the torque boxes. On Ahoragi's pics it looks like there is under coating that's dried and cracking, which lets in and traps moisture against the metal, promoting more rust. Whatever you do, avoid rubberized undercoatings like the plague. I used chassis saver on my frame and underbody, and sprayed eastwood inner frame coating inside the frame rails. And remember to drill drain holes in your frame so this doesn't happen again!
