Towing an Automatic Behind my RV

I have read all the threads on towning the TJ behind an RV. I have had no issues when I towed my manual six speed TJ. I now have a 2004 Rubicon with an automatic transmission. The owners manual states to place the transfer case in neutral and then place the transmission in park. The previous thread here stated to place the transmission in drive. I went ahead and placed mine in park since that was what the owners manual stated to do. I noticed if I didnt get the transfer case lever just right in neutral, although the transmission didnt engage when in drive or reverse, it would grind a bit when I would attempt to put it in park. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Towing an auto is case in "N" and trans in "P"

If there is grinding maybe you need some linkage adjustments???

For flat towing, the correct way is definitely to place the automatic transmission in Park (yes) and the transfer case in Neutral. Your Owner's Manual will confirm that.

Placing the automatic transmission in Park while flat towing prevents it from being spun parasitically via the torque converter while it isn't receiving proper lubrication.
