Trans American Trail

Has anyone here done the Trans American Trail? if so any tips?
Me and my dad are talking about doing it next year sometime
if you don't know what I'm talking about you can read here

its more of a dirt bike trail with not many hard sections for 4x4s, but I hear there are some, its supposed to be VERY scenic

As you can see by this video it is much more of a scenic route than a trail, still looks like a blast tho

It’s very similar to the Back Country Discovery Routes. A couple of my adventure buddies have done long sections of it, but I’ve not hit it yet. In a jeep, these routes are all about the scenery / adventure. The toughest sections I’ve hit on my big adventure bike would be a walk in the park in a stock jeep.

That said, last summer my wife and I did a bunch of the Colorado BDR in a Grand Cherokee, and it was a blast.

No. The TAT Maps and TAT Roll Charts are specifically designed for navigation from East to West, regardless of which state or what part of the trail you decided to start in. My GPS tracks will allow you to navigate East to West.

I would think that's a limitation specific to dirt bikers that have a harder time opening up a map while riding and use more turn-by-turn style directions.

But the guy could sell twice as many maps if he offered the other direction as an option.

Don’t know about the TAT, but the BDR maps are well worth the cost. That group put a lot of work into the development, and they include a lot of great info.

And you can certainly run these things in reverse - you just reverse the gps route, We ran the entire CO in reverse from North to South - you just need to know a little about how gps routes work.

One thing about running these routes in a jeep - it’s a whole lot faster on a bike…

Search Kentucky Adventure Trail (KAT). It is another good one on my list and all the maps/gpx files are free. I have had friends do sections of it in Jeeps/Samurais and on dual sports and have come back with smiles on their faces.

I met a guy riding a dual sport through Death Valley with those maps, you aren't kidding, the best I've seen. They are worth every penny.

On my big bike, if the GPS is upside down - I'm in real trouble!
