Hello all, I have a 2001 60th anniversary TJ, it’s a 4.0 so do I have the ax15? I know they switched manual tranny’s so I’m not sure. It’s a 5 speed.

Also, how difficult is the fluid change on my trans and transfer case?

Thanks in advance!

Changing fluids is a breeze. Personally, if you’ve never removed your skid plate and cleaned everything up, I think now is a good time to do so. Just remember to support the trans/transfer once you’ve dropped the skid plate.

Here’s a decent video showing the drain and fill plugs for the AX15:

I have a long arm kit so my skid is a pain in the ass to remove, Ive done it before on my YJ, wasn’t hard to remove and get back on

Your 2001 TJ came with the NV3550 transmission so long as it's the 5-speed. A very good gear lube for the NV3550 is Redline MTL which is what I'd run if I had that transmission. You might as well come to grips with the fact your skidplate is going to have to come off to change your transmission fluid which will make it easier to change the tcase (takes ATF) fluid. Support the transmission in front of the skidplate before dropping the skidplate. Don't forget to remove the four transmission mount nuts (1/2" socket) located in the skidplate on the bottom.

This shows your NV3550's drain and fill plugs.

I have a 2000 TJ with the NV3550 and 215,000 miles. About a year ago it would grind when downshifting into 2nd gear. I parked it for almost a year while I repaired the rusted out frame, but while I had the skid plate off I took the opportunity to change all the fluids. I took Jerry’s advice and tried the Redline MTL, and I have been quite pleased with the results...Jeep is back on the road and no more grinding!

The drain and fill plugs are 17mm hex, if you don’t have a hex socket that large, get yourself a metric bolt with a 17mm head on it and 2 nuts...worked great for me.
