Upgrading rear Dana 35 axle

I think when I was looking at an 8.8 it was going to cost me around $700 to have it welded up. And then you still have a limited slip and not a locker.

That seems like a lot to weld on the new brackets.

Yes sir. I do already have the 8.8s brackets removed and ready for bracket welding. It does have a limited slip and is geared to 4.10. Only thing is I can’t weld. So I would have to take it to a 4x4 shop to have it done right.

As I said in my other post if you can't do the work yourself which includes the welding then it is cheaper and makes more sense to us a Super 35 kit in your current Dana 35 rear axle. And they offer a Detroit Locker in a 30 spline option that works with the Super 35 shafts.

I'd pay for and install a Super 35 into a Dana 35 before I'd go with an 8.8 even if it was free.

Yes we all know how you feel about a 8.8.

Hey Jerry. I remember you saying how you really liked your Detroit locker. Can I run a Detroit locker on the road safely or would I be better off with the E-locker ?

Well I'm not Jerry but I ran a Detroit Locker in the rear of my TJ for about 3 years. Once you get use to the occasional pop from the locker you will forget it is even there. And it can be fun with friends who have never ridden in the Jeep before you go the locker. When it pops you can look at them with wide eyes and say " Man I hope that noise wasn't something getting broken!!! " As far as driving it every day on the road again no issues or problems.

A Detroit locker locks the two axle shafts together all the time except when going around a corner and then it ratchets as it goes around a corner. Once in a while when it locks back into place it will pop.
