how far in should my IAC stem thingy be? Is it supposed to be able to move a little more freely? I may end up just replacing it.

The IAC will not move by hand. If you force it to, it will break. You can’t judge how far out or in it’s sticking, it’s all varies depending on how the computer determines it needs to be in order to run right. If you aren’t idling high or low, it isn’t a problem. I think you and JP have different issues.

I checked for any codes and the only one that showed up was 12. But we disconnected our battery recently so that isnt an issue. Im not sure if I mentioned it before, but the check engine light isnt/wasnt on.
Im going to wait for the engine( and the temperature outside) to cool off a little bit and look at some more options

I think your problem lies within one of the engine management sensors such as the TPS, MAP, or O2 sensor. My first guess would be the TPS. Just because you don’t have a code doesn’t mean it isn’t the problem.
Thanks, and yeah I know I was simply saying that code 12 didnt show that it specifically was an issue. Im going to check to make sure the TPS is properly connected and has a clean connection first before anything else.
Not sure I replaced the IAC yesterday just because its old and to make sure it isnt an issue, I need to drive it but its been pouring rain and I have the top down currently. Waiting for the weather to clear up at the moment. Hopefully though.
Well Im glad it rains sometimes. But since i keep the top down almost all summer it can be a bit of a bummer...
Oh, I'm glad it rains too (I live in one of the rainiest places in the U.S.), but we haven't seen a drop of rain since Summer started! I guess things are different out that way.
I know when I lived in Arizona they would get monsoon season.
Well our summers are usually mostly sun and a little bit of rain but we just had a small chunk of a tropical storm come through and the rain is lingering. Its august which is not only the beginning but the height of hurricane season i believe.
Yeah, you're over there in that area that gets tropical storms, so that makes complete sense. No such thing as a tropical storm over here in the Pacific Northwest.
Found a quick break in the storm to test it out. No better unfortunately. The vacuum line mentioned earlier. I guess I looked in the wrong spot as his doesnt have the cover over it but when the engine cools down I will be taking the cover off of that and checking that. I also may order a TPS and replace my current one just to be safe. Im also going to look at some of the Oxygen sensors.
It would be nice to have a scanner capable of displaying live date while the problem flares up in your road test. Giving you access to the fuel trims and map, iac, data. Not sure if they rent them at the local parts stores. Anyone know?
Another update: my moms been driving it and going the same routes to places i do and it hasnt done the issue for her. Either Im cursed or it was bad fuel or it was the IAC. I still need to do a cold start of my own again.
On another note, marching band started up for my school and I play sousaphone(marching tuba basically) and it just barely fits in the back of the jeep haha!
