Voltage reading high.

I started my jeep n everything was fine. As I get up to about 35 mph, the voltage pegs at 19 and the check gauges light comes on. I stop n keep it running n while at idle, the meter goes back to normal. As soon as I get up to speed again, it pegs at 19 again. What could this be?

Could be allot of stuff, maybe a bad ground somewhere. Do a careful inspection of all the grounds and the battery terminals in the engine compartment. Make sure the battery terminals are basically perfect. Get a voltmeter on it and be sure the voltage isn't really going high at the battery or alternator when you rev the engine. Things will go downhill very fast if you are really running voltage that high.
