Warn VR Evo 10s winch experience

Looking at picking up one of these NIB locally

Any experience with these new Warns? Worth the money?

They are not bad but IMO not as good as the Gen 2 VR that they replaced. Personally I would look around for a good used regular Warn and refurbish. Also for for the next two weeks there is an exemption on Warns UMP policy so you might find the M8000 on sale for a good price.

UMP policy?

Couple EVO's, take cable off and get synthetic, if that is your thing. (lots of mud, maybe cable is better ?)

Watch FB, lots of them on there and some good deals if patient. I will say again there is no better value than a good/taken care of used Warn winch; M8, 9 or 9.5.

Is that exemption just for the M8, or are others exempted, too?

I’ve seen you say the 9000i can’t use a contactor. Does this mean remote control only? Please elaborate

With an i you cannot replace the 4 solenoids with a single contactor, or would not want to. I guess you could (control box mounted separately??), but not practical. Also can still use "in cab" wiring with an i. Be sure and test the motor before buying; new motors are now near 300 bucks.

This vid is not a Warn, but you get the idea. Replace solenoids with a new Albright contactor. Hard to do on an i.
The EVO are basically a new i with the contactor instead of 4 solenoids.

If this I for 275 has a working motor it’s worth it then.

Yes in my opinion; but always try and reduce the price. You will need syn line ($150 BMB) and clean and grease, probably a bushing set.
And longer power cables. (get cable from welding store and make your own, about $30+)

But a good Warn 9, with steel cable, is worth $500 at min. Could be wrong.

It’s a very nice winch. I bought one used on MP that wasn’t working for $225. About $150 more and it runs and looks great. Warn’s customer service department will send you a free decal set. In the pic of my Warn I hadn’t replaced the decals yet.

Is the 9.5ti solid?

Was at the alternator shop yesterday getting a Warn motor fixed. Asked about 1/0 cable for winch leads and they are now $5.67 a ft. So near $70 for two leads, just for the cable !! Copper under Bidenomics.

Both EVO's are SOLD.
