What do you do if you're stopped on a hill and your Jeep can't make it?

If you hit the brakes the front will lock....
Maybe I'm missing something but if you're in 4 wheel drive the front can't lock up and stop rolling and not have the rears do the same... which would mean all 4 tires would be sliding??? As some others have already stated, using your brakes to control your decent is the best option when combined with engine braking. Rolling tires have better traction than a sliding tire.

That makes sense 4wd, makes the wheels work in unison

Once you lose forward motion, control the rearward motion. Control the momentum. And you need to be as good driving in reverse as you are going forward.

Hopefully if you are in that situation you are using/have lockers.
