What gears and cold air intake?

Is this 5 speed specific? My 05 came with 4.10 when i bought it, 33’s and 6 speed. I am fine, but could be better. If building to 35’s would you go 4.88 or higher #? Dana 35 so will put a S35. I don’t have any real world between 6 speed and 5 in a TJ.
Is yours a 4 or 6 cylinder?

6 speed, personally I would go 4.56 with 33s, and 4.88 with 35s. The 6 speed doesn't have as tall of an OD as the 5 speeds.

If you have 4.10 now, 5th gear is exactly the same ultimate gearing as 6th and 4.88 gears (1.00×4.10 = 0.84×4.88). So if you want to test out 4.88 gears, simply leave it in 5th gear and pretend 6th doesn't exist.

With 4.88 and 35s, though, you'll have three usable gears on the freeway. With the 4.10s, 3rd gear is still too deep to use at 75+, but 4th with 4.88 is very useful between 70-80 mph for hill climbing and passing, as it gets you right around 4500 RPM, which is right around peak power for the 4.0.

With 5.13 and 35s (or 4.88 and 33s), though, you would lose the ability to use 4th at higher speeds.

Thanks, great info. Came with 33's and 4.10 and I won';t change it until I go to 35's, hopefully by Christmas. Appreciate it. I've got the ratios in grimjeeper, but this real world feel, I appreciate.

Getting current prices on the 4.88's. How bad will these affect my top speed and RPMs? Not really worried about fuel mileage
Shouldn't affect the top speed. You'll run out of power long before you hit the top RPM in the top gear. It will be easier to hold 70-80 mph though. You could still do 90+, but this vehicle was never intended to go that fast, lifted or not. Expect your RPMs to be around 3000 at 75 mph with 33s, which is a very good target.

You may actually see an improvement in fuel economy. 5.13s might be slightly less economical with 33s, but would be fine with 35s.
