Dropped my Jeep off yesterday to get a "slip yoke eliminator" and drive shaft done (also get rid of the POs 1" transfer drop). When I got it back it appears to have a diffrent (newer) transfer case and now the shifter hits the dash in 1st 3rd and 5th. Not even sure how that's related. Before/after Pics below.

The 1st, 3rd, 5th shifter is closer to the dashboard because of the now missing transfer case drop. I'm not sure why it's hitting the dash.

The transfer case may be a different one, which may be bad, or good, news, or it could just be the same one as before that has been made so clean the ID tag is now unreadable.

Too many variables to tell and I don't know if the shop that did this can't, or can, be trusted either.

I hope the shifter thing is easily fixed and everything else is A-OK.

Why not ask the shop who did the work for you? They would know better than us.

Looks like they gave it a good cleaning. The front half gets removed to install the new output shaft. Getting rid of the 1" tcase drop also raises your tcase back up again by 1". Pretty common issue. Some replace the shifter boot with a soft leather one, others install a body lift, some have even tweaked the shifter itself.

If the PO tweaked the shifter in order to get into 2nd 4th and reverse when they did the TC drop, you may have to "untweak" it .
Ya I pulled the shifter and bent it back. Oddly it was already bent back somewhat i just bent it back more and it clears now.

The shop may have just sandblasted it while it was off the jeep....

From the lack of colour on the tag it looks like they media blasted the case to clean it up before re-assembly. If thats the case I certainly wouldn’t be upset at them, it shows their dedication to good workmanship.

Agreed. A closer inspection shows all the same markings, even on the tag. Looks like they are badass!

Likely just tossed the back half in the parts washer.

My suspesions are ill-founded. It looks as though they did an awesome job cleaning the old transfer case and I "adjusted" the shifter with a vice and cheater bar to not hit the dash. All good! Thanks fellas

I think you have used cleaning solvent that is more than capable of removing the red from the tags.
Lots of auto shops have high pressure parts cleaners that use very hot water and a strong detergent. Think of a dish washer on steroids that you can toss a transmission housing in.

Hmmm, didn’t think of anything like that. When I think of a parts washer I think of the typical red basin with recirc pump and a solvent reservoir below. But yeah, I see how a hot water pressure washing machine will work better.

It's even possible the guy that owns the shop took that transfer case home and ran it through his wife's dishwasher.

While I didn't clean something as heavy as a transfer case, I may have cleaned something or other besides dishes. Please don't mention it to my wife.

Was the shifter bracket changed when the tcase drop was installed? May need to reinstall the un-modified original - not that any of this matters as long as it's now working as it should ;)
