New to the Jeep world 2004 Wrangler X manual 4.0 problem. My TJ will not shift into neutral coming out of 4 wheel high.
What I have found out is there is a switch on the Transfer Case (not the one that that lights up the 4 wheel indicator on the dash}
that allows you to shift into neutral then into 4 low. I need to know the name and part number for a replacement.
Thanks ,
Lou

Do you have a lift on your jeep? The stock linkage that shifts your transfer case if pretty junk and I recommend getting A cable shifter. But there is a bolt that allows you to be able to adjust the linkage if it isn’t already rusted out

I see switch #37 but am not sure which other switch you are talking about.

To shift to neutral or low range you have to shift the shift lever over.

There's only one switch on the 231 transfer case, i.e. the 4WD indicator switch. The only other port on the case is for the speedometer gear. If it isn't going into gear or neutral correctly, it's a shifter linkage problem. Best to pull that and replace it with one of these!

Wildman I can't move the shifter over into neutral it will not move in that direction.
Previous owner never had the jeep in 4 wheel drive. Can the shifter be frozen

Yes it is possible. The TJ I'd bought my daughter had a HECK of a time shifting. Yes the shifter can be gummed up or rusted too much.
You might need to pull the shifter off the TJ and see if you can clean it up.

As others suggested the Savvy shifter cable is a good item to install.
