What is this (TJ part, I think)

Another "what is this" thread.

I've stripped the tub bare, removed the dash, reinstalled everything, and while putting the rear seat back in I spotted this little guy in the tub. It must have fallen out of something. Any idea what it is? Prt of the seat belt mechanism? Some sort of float? The little ball inside rolls around, but I can't imagine what purpose it serves.

Help quench my curiosity!

That is part of your seatbelt. I think it works by locking your seat belt in the event that you tip over.
You are correct. The ball in the cup pushes down on a plunger that sticks up through the bottom. When tilt or inertia moves the ball off to the side, the plunger is allowed to rise up and engage the locking mechanism on the retractor.
 
Thanks guys. I suspected, but also wouldn't have been surprised if you'd told me it was the level sensor for the blinker fluid reservoir or something.

Definitely looks like a part from Mousetrap though.
That was my 2nd guess or a 'Seasonal Air Filter' hehe
