I get to rebuild my NSG370 (yay!) and thought I’d rebuild the NV231 while it’s out. What kits do you like and what chains are you using? I’m hesitant to get any cheap crap.
Thanks ... already got a message in to them.JB Conversions has a master and partial rebuild kit too, I haven't used it but their SSSYE is regarded as high quality and they use a Borg Warner chain
Yup ... however, since the tcase will be open and partially disassembled for the SYE, i figured might as well spend the few bucks for some peace-of-mind later. What is there to really rebuild? A chain stretches over time so not a horrible idea, but if everything else is intact, I'd say save your money.
THanks ... maybe it's me, but their website doesn't have too many products, if any.I use DT Components http://www.dtcomponents.com/ that I source locally.
I'm thinking bearings and seals, and there's that plastic thing near the shift forks iirc. What is there to really rebuild? A chain stretches over time so not a horrible idea, but if everything else is intact, I'd say save your money.
Their main page is lacking but their online application guide is top notch. http://catalog.dtcomponents.com/ You will want to email them to find a dealer close to you.THanks ... maybe it's me, but their website doesn't have too many products, if any.
The other thing about the 97 is that when I changed out the heater core and took apart the dash, I learned the PO might've taken this thing in some deep water. Some interesting water level lines. After finding that out, I've been upping my schedule to work on replacing parts sooner than later.I understand the "while its out" mentality. But failing tcase internals are not very common.
I went with it. No difference noted. They include Timken bearings and I got the Borg Warner chain also. It works like stock.Any updated kit preferences?
on the 97, I'm thinking of having the TC rebuilt as we'll be putting on the SYE kit and both new front/rear DS.
@Doctor Bone Smash ... did you install the kit you mentioned? Pros/cons??
Was the chain 1" wide?? I just saw a website that seems to indicate there's more than one size/width of chain.I went with it. No difference noted. They include Timken bearings and I got the Borg Warner chain also. It works like stock.
I used the standard size chain. The wider chain needs a conversion to run. I’m pretty sure it is unnecessary except very high torque applications. Was the chain 1" wide?? I just saw a website that seems to indicate there's more than one size/width of chain.
Mine needed shift fork bushings, several bearings, a chain that was skipping in lo. And oil seals. If they were abused and neglected, they need everything. What is there to really rebuild? A chain stretches over time so not a horrible idea, but if everything else is intact, I'd say save your money.
