What other cool vehicles have you owned?

1989 Taurus SHO. Not exactly cool by modern standards but 220hp left the M5 as the only sedan that was even comparable and the Yamaha engine revved to nearly 8k and looked like a basket of angry snakes. Also, a clean one with low miles could be had for $3500 in 2000 which fit my 17 yo budget...though I think it would have been more well received by my peers if I'd been 40.

1976 Datsun 280Z - built engine with Crane cam, triple weber carbs, 8 pound flywheel, long tube header, 3.90 gears and a 5 speed out of a 280ZX.

1987 BMW 635CSi.

1985 Ford Bronco - 6" lift and 35s, built 351W with a C6. Hilariously fun to drive around in, but it got 10mpg and an aftermarket digital dash that showed fuel level in percent...and seeing movements in the fuel level that often takes the fun out of it.

2006 Mazda MX-5. Only car I ever bought new...because it was halfway through 2007 and they still had '06's on the lot that were marked down below what used ones were selling for.

2006 Harley Davidson XL1200N. I'm not into all the typical chopper thing, so I raised the rear end, fitted it with lower bars, a 7" headlight, 2-1 header, a 2-up seat that came off a more cafe-inspired Sportster model I can't recall the name of, and had a bunch of stuff powdercoated black.

2005 Inifiniti G35 coupe 6 speed - the impulse buy I made the week my divorce was finalized, that I had to sell the Harley to pay for. My ex and I worked together, so I waited about a month before I drove it into work. Then she paid me back by riding her new Sportster Iron 883 that I "paid for", to work...on my birthday. :ROFLMAO:

Now we need a list of not cool ones.

Putting this together I realized all of my least cool vehicles are trucks. Not necessarily that trucks are inherently uncool (I'd love a replica of the Toyota from Back to the Future), but I don't enjoy driving trucks, so when I buy them, I buy them because I need their utility, style takes a backseat, and then I usually sell it when I'm done with it before I've done any sort of customization to make it cooler.

2007 Honda Ridgeline. Yes, I actually bought one of these. I've told people it's a great choice if you want an uglier copy of the Chevy Avalanche with less space, less payload, less towing, less power, AND (counterintuitively for a Honda) less fuel economy.

It was the right vehicle for me at the time though, because what I needed it for needed a bigger bed than an infiniti G35 has but didn't need the towing or payload of a real truck, and since the Ridgeline had existed long enough for the market to figure out it was trash, it cost way less than a real truck.

1996 T100 2WD. It was a good, solid truck, but sparing options, bug-shields, dated wheels, tiny tires and low 2WD ride height made it solidly qualify as a "grandpa truck". It had a lifter tick you could hear from a block away.

2000 Chevy Silverado 3 door. At least this one was 4wd, but another grandpa truck. In fact, I sold this truck to my dad, who is 71 and a grandpa, and he still has it. The only photos I have of it are the ones I took when the fuel pump went out when I was exactly halfway between two towns that were 40 miles apart.

2004 4Runner. Could have been cool if it wasn't 2WD. Who the hell buys a 2WD Toyota 4Runner? My wife's aunt in southeastern Oklahoma, apparently. Who then sells it to her sister, who then gives it to her daughter, who I then married. I recognize Toyota makes quality vehicles, but they're SOO uninspiring. A 2wd 4runner (2Runner?) is the peak overlap between vehicle and appliance.

When I was drivetrain-swapping the 280Z I bought this to drive around. 1984 Volvo 240 wagon (this is a photo from the internet, but mine looked just like it).

AC didn't work, fuel gauge stuck at half a tank, and the manual transmission engaged overdrive using a button on the shifter. To this day I have no idea how that mechanism works.

Uncool but served the purpose at the time, I can't remember them all.

Honda CR-V
Dodge Dart station wagon
Suzuki Vitara
Dodge Dakota
Chevy S10 Blazer
GMC Jimmy

My dad always had a land cruiser project growing up back when they were cheap and folks didn’t know about them. In my early college years I bought this fj60 for a thousand bucks, did a spring over lift, gears, arb lockers, and then daily drove it through college. I regret selling it but I have had a blast learning about tj’s these last few years. This forum has also been way more helpful and awesome than ih8mud.

Notice the oil spot under the bike in this photo... It was only parked there long enough to takethe photo.
It actually leaked so badly, that I put a pan under it every night and then dumped that oil back in the next morning.

When I wanted to retire my TJ from its daily driver status, I bought a second, inexpensive car. Knowing I probably wasn't going to keep it around for very long, I went with a white Chevy HHR.

It was not at all powerful and it absolutely sucked to drive in the snow, but it was fun to own for the short time I had it. Ended up selling it to a guy who was building a start-up computer company and wanted to make use of the cargo space.

Staring ~2010 I downsized the project fleet and raised funds for down payment on the current house. I owned these cars, but the first 3 photos show the buyer's finished effort.

1984 Monte SS. Original paint and interior. I did the LS swap, brakes/wheels, and suspension. I sold it to Ridetech who used it to develop a G-Body suspension. I had an Alston Chassisworks system on it before Ridetech did their thing. Ridetech FB Page

1964 Morgan +4. I reluctantly sold this one early on in a full restoration. The buyer, an avid Brit car enthusiast, finished the project to perfection.

'66 Pontiac Tempest w/ a '70 455 HO and TH400. It sold to a buyer in Sweden who would periodically send me updates like this Christmas card from a few years ago.

I rehabbed this '02 MINI Cooper S from a sad neglected state. It was the wife's fun car. She reminds me constantly that she misses her mini. This thing was an absolute hoot to drive. The full Borla race exhaust and supercharger really came alive above 4k RPM.

Beautiful Tempest… I had a 66 GTO W/389 - 6pack & factory Hurst 4 speed that I went to Japan
