What's this TJ Worth?

Local TJ for sale, guy wants $7,000. What do you all think? Here is the listing:

Selling my 2005 Jeep Wrangler with 4.0L 6 cylinder engine. Possible open to trades for corvette, truck, rzr, yxz, maybe a boat. -6 speed manual transmission -163xxx miles -4” suspension lift -1.25” body lift -35” tires -1” motor mount lift -SYE -LED headlights -Hi-lift Jack -Kenwood speakers, Tweeters, and subwoofers -Flip up head unit -New transmission floor seal, shift boot and center console -LED pods on windshield pillars -New Y-pipe exhaust from the manifold back -Dynomax cat back exhaust -New spark plugs -New axle seals and bearings in the rear -New Best top bikini top just installed -New in box Trailer hitch receiver Runs great but pops out of 1st gear, you can hold in 1st or start out in 2nd. I am dropping $1500 off for this taking price to $7000 firm. CD player dont work.

In my area that is easily worth over 7k even if you consider it may need a transmission swap/rebuild.

Do you know if it has a dana 44 or 35? Or a vin so you can run the build sheet?

I'd pay $7K for that provided it all checked out. The only thing I do not like is the wheel being mounted to the tailgate.

Ask for the VIN, or if the rear diff cover has a screw in plug or a rubber plug.

Vin number will tell the whole story. @Midtenn raised a good point with the spare tire. It also doesn't have the rubber bumpers on the tailgate so I'd look really close at the tailgate for any cracks.

It makes me wonder how long he/she has owned it. With those mods, they'd know the answer to that question.

Worth more than that here in Texas, based on what is listed. I'm seeing above $10k on 150,000 on 05 TJ's which i have one. I would see this going for 12. The popping out can be many things, including adjustments or a new shifter, doesn't mean a trans rebuild, if it's not grinding and Synchros aren't toast.

Even if it has a wobble, IF it looks clean otherwise, you could put in top notch arms and currectlync and clean up steering (IF it has that, which I've seen in most TJ's I looked at) you could do all that and still be under $10k investment if you do the work.
They don't list a full top, but a Quadratec soft top with tinted windows is pretty cheap.

If I was in the market and was happy that the engine is solid (budget $500 to $750 in This or That (water pump, whatever) that may happen, it looks worth all of $7k.

My hunch is very shortly... probably bought it and realized it needs significant transmission work and now wants to dump it.

I asked him "did you put in the BL yourself?"... his response "what's a BL"

Have you seen it in person? The rust appears to get worse as you get close to the rear bumper. I stand by $7K being a good price but given the option between dealing with rust or buying a new transmission, I'd buying a transmission every day of the week.

Agree, Trans is a fix, Rust is rotten, ha. All can be fixed, but it's just another level to me.

Haven't seen it yet... only about 25 min away, going to drive out there on Friday. Agree with you as well on the rust vs. transmission

I’d say 7 is a bit of a steal, even if you factor in a new trans which will be about 800 if you willing to go AX15, or more if you want the 6 speed, haven’t looked at those. Frame is solid. I would be curious what kind of suspension lift, (Currie teraflex etc) and I’m not to big on those wheels but that’s just me.

Buying from a non TJ person isn't necessarily bad. They may be scared of a TJ thing that's really not that big of a deal to fix. Like I said earlier, I've seen 4 or 5 Jeeps throw out crazy low prices here (they park them at the High School and I see them and call just to ask) and I ask to drive, they sheepishly say "It drives bad about 40 mph". That's just some parts and work to fix in my opinion, but for a non TJ fan, it's a Danger Zone Emergency to dump quick.

When I picked up my TJ it was missing one of the sway bar link bolts, when I took it on the test drive I got around the corner and threw in the pin, drove great, lust like any Jeep, w/o it it was all over the road. Seller knocked 2k off of a 6k Jeep, didint even have to ask. And it was like less than 5 min and 5$ in parts.

I'm all for fair, but there's more information on that online than any topic other than a Virus, ha. Wouldn't take much to look into it for them, good for you.

I also just did a bench rebuild on a 6 speed trans, and they are finicky (I like them, have 2, but they are "Truck" trans, not nice car trans, ha) and that could be a lot of things. Could be the new boot mentioned in restricting 1st (common). A high end B&M shifter would most likely fix, $500 or so, but still. I pulled it, and a full rebuild every single synchro and slider and input shaft were shot, and it was $2,200, cheapest I found for that.
