Where is this leak coming from?

Also be nice to know the state of the timing chain. When I did my RMS I could get a finger on the chain and boy was it loose.

I did a Melling timing chain set...and since I was in there did the water pump, crank pulley and checked the thermostat (and struggled like hell to get that housing to seal up.)

At 106k I wouldn't be too concerned...but I like to know things and not assume.

Yup .. it's for sure coolant .. it's leaking quicker now (even though it's stationary in my driveway) lol .. Ok this will get replaced ASAP with a non-store brand pump!

If you want to do it yourself, check out this video. I used this video and replaced the water pump on my TJ in July. I've never changed oil in my main car before, but I am pretty handy and was able to get through this.

X2, and Gates is indeed a good brand of water pump.

I went with AC Delco for my water pump in July. It has only been a few months, but been working fine.

Another reminder to make 100% sure the block surface is clean before installing the new pump, it only takes hardly a spec for the gasket to not seal and your pump will be leaking again in no time.

How about a pump from autozone? With some wd40 to help loosen the water pump bolts?

Another Gates user here since 2021. Though I think it only has 5k miles on it. I used a fel-pro gasket. Another reminder to make 100% sure the block surface is clean before installing the new pump, it only takes hardly a spec for the gasket to not seal and your pump will be leaking again in no time.

What about removing the fan assembly? Mine is not responding to big wrench and hammer. Can you pull the pump and shroud with fan attached and then deal with it ?

If you have a large punch or chisel you can whack it against the nut with a hammer and sometimes it will jar the nut loose, it is left-hand thread if I am not mistaken. It can be a bit cumbersome to loosen the fan clutch nut off of the vehicle.

Actually just got it. Secret was to just keep hitting the wrench. Metallic hammer worked better than dead blow.

Hi did you have trouble reusing the fan hub bolts (4)? The 4 from my old water pump are too big and will not screw into the new AC Delco I purchased. I am having a heck of a time finding bolts to fit and unfortunately it is already installed And I cannot take to the hardware store to match up unless I uninstall. 0 for 3 on trips thus far Trying to find the right size. Could I use a small bolt with washer on back? Thanks for any thoughts.

I used the factory bolts and they worked fine for me.

I think some of the bolts are different lengths than others. You have to be careful about that.

Thanks. Determined I was and made it to AutoZone before closing for my last try of the day. Apparently the bolts are 5/16-18 and my old water pump bolts were 5/16-20. All 3/4” length. I Tried in the store on the chart and saw my old one worked for the “-20” so I bought the “- 18s“ and they worked. time will tell if the install and ac delco hold up for me. Thanks again for prompt reply.
