Wildman's TJ is getting a face lift

Then let's hope that he gets his "mater" cylinder (Freudian slip?) instead of the latter...

Mater cylinder?

While trying to get the exhaust reinstalled I'd been under the Jeep with it running enough that I knew how hot the exhaust is. So I decided to wrap it while it was off again. Long story....

And after getting fed up with melting the O2 sensor plugs I put a wire on it so I could pull it up away from the exhaust.

Seems to be working this time.

Now to put the AiRock system back together so I can go for a road test.

But it's supposed to 🌧 today 😕.... so I might hold off on that road test. Just had some thunder...

I built a '65 Mustang a while back. I ended up wrapping the exhaust as well. It helped with the cabin temp and I thought it cleaned up the engine bay nicely. It was kind of a pain to get on, but worth it.

I won't say I did a great job at it but if it helps some with the heat then it's a good thing.

Well that was a complete failure yesterday....The bore on the new master cylinder was too large for the hydroboost.... So after all the work of removing the old master and making a mess I had to reinstall it... I looked all over the old master cylinder and couldn't find where it was leaking at. Not that it matters at this point.
Was really hoping I could of made that new one work... So back to the drawing board.

Hooked the old master cylinder back up and bled the brakes. Not sure yet if it's still leaking or not. Took it outside and hosed everything off to try and rinse the brake fluid off things.

But the shifter cable is now hard to shift again until it warms up. So I'll order a spare cable. But I've still got to figure out a better routing for it. Not sure if it's the angles of the bends or heat.

NAPA is getting me a different master cylinder also so hopefully one of them will work. Didn't get anything done on the Jeep today other than some planning. Was going to try an idea but ran out of steam too fast since I hadn't slept good last night.

So @lBasket keeps ranting about his idea of water cooled hose cover and his "SILLY" idea to use a welding cable cover that is water cooled...

I am going to pull the crossmember and use some of the pad/sheet of heat barrier that I used on the floorboard. I'm going to put that between the shifter cable and transmission case. Then I'm also going to wrap the transmission cable in some heavier heat wrap.

Next I'm going to put some of that heat barrier sheet between the cat & transmission pan to cut down on the heat going to the transmission. We'll see if any of this helps at all. I was hoping to have this done and ready so I could go over to Snohomish on Thursday but the parts won't be here until Thursday. So I'll head over Friday after I'm done. Maybe hit Reiter Friday afternoon?
And then meeting up with some forum members on Saturday @ Reiter.... We'll see how the transmission temps do then and how the shifter cable does.

Then it's try to get out with the Jeep as many times as I can between now and 15 Aug... And I need to know NLT 8 Aug if I'm going on the MT trip or not... I just don't want to drive all that distance to only breakdown.... Wish I had more confidence in the rig.

Need to win a scratch-off for $5K so I can just do the 8HP70 swap...

I was laying under the Jeep looking and my ONLY other idea of how to run the shifter cable would be out the back and then over the top of the STaK's t-case and then loop back around to the shifter lever but I'm not sure if it'd clear parts. Will have a better idea in a few.

You mean his GENIUS idea where you could keep it coolant temp and shed the heat via radiator.

My Saab used a "floating" thin sheet metal heat shield between the turbo n heat sensitive junk if you could fit that.
