Wind noise from hard top

Hi team,
I have had this wind noise coming from the top of my windshield for a while. Putting masking tape over the windshield gap seemed to fix this issue, but I noticed that the paint was actually coming off with the tape - so I removed the tape.

I also tried putting some tissue paper in the hinge to increase the clamping force between the hard top and the windshield. This significantly reduced the amount of noise coming through. I imagine that there is a better way to do this instead of tissue paper? Does anybody have any ideas??

The correct answer is make sure you clamp it down at the front first THEN screw it down right in back second. This let's it seat better up front where it matters most. Also, your rubber seal might be squished and worn and in need of replacement.

The other answers people have used vary from adding an additional strip of foam to the windshield seal to silicone sealant (don't do that) to different brands or iterations of the windshield seal. Good luck!

Thanks for your response. I think it might be the seal? When I clamp it down the top doesn't seem to be pulled towards the wind shield as much as it should.

Could be. Try replacing the seal. I think they are around $100.

I see you have a '98 like me. I replaced my seal maybe 10 years ago with a Mopar seal (which I recommend). At the time, there was an older style and a newer style. The newer style had more of a protruding lip which was supposed to help with wind noise. I found that to be the case. The "new" style was supposed to be for '03+ IIRC but worked on mine. I just needed to remove a couple of push pins and poke new holes to relocate them out something like that. It's been a while. Not sure you can even find Mopar seals anymore.

The other issue: if you replaced the side seals with something thicker than the factory seals, the front of the hardtop will sit just a touch too high, as will the liftgate at the rear.
