I traded my ‘15 JKU for a low mileage Touareg for the wife and bought the latest LJ to replace it. Daily driver (when not working from home), but my commute is only 6 miles each way, so it gets driven for fun a lot more than to and from work. Very happy with the decision. Not sure I would do the same with a significantly longer commute, though.

I certainly would, I don't like that the 2007 and newer Wranglers that pretty much run everything via a computer bus instead of wiring that is much easier to troubleshoot. Even the headlights are on a computer bus. From what I read, the latest Wranglers have a LOT more ways to generate Check Engine lights and they do just that... generate a lot more CELs.

While the TJs had their own problems during production years; the JKs and JLs are much more prone to glitches and CELs as Jerry stated above.
Yes..... the newer JKs and JLs are much more comfortable as a DD, but the more electronics on a Jeep the more things that can go wrong and more difficult to troubleshoot. Both of these models have had many many electrical problems and continue with new recalls.
I owned a '11 JK Sport for 7 years and while I liked the Jeep as a DD; the '01 TJ Sport I own now is more fun to drive and wish I would have purchased this Jeep new. Several times a week I am coming out of a restaurant, stopped in parking lots or even stopped at a traffic light to ask questions about the Jeep or give me a thumbs up....
The TJs are CLASSICS; the last model just about fully steel with the true Jeep road handling and looks....

No computer controlled fuel injectors, no anti lock brakes, electric air pumps for Rubicons, no computer controlled emission systems, no cruise control buttons, no air bags.

Imagine folks hesitance to electronic fuel injection and electronic fuel pumps when they were first introduced? An electrical switch that rolls the window up and down? Get that out of here.

I sold my 2014 JKU for a 2000 TJ. Not my daily driver. I love it and I'm very happy with my decision. Parts are everywhere, it's cheaper and easier to work on.

I have a small car for a daily driver. I would not want to drive my TJ daily.

Glad I got my TJ! I DD it half the time, the other times I’m driving my ‘06 Dodge Ram diesel.
The diesel’s a little large, but at 22 to 24 mpg, I can’t bitch.

I have a TJR and a JLUR and I love both of them, but because of all the electronic crap I'd never have a JL that wasn't covered by full warranty. I bought the JL with 20k miles on it and 12 months factory warranty left. I added a lengthy extended warranty and when that runs out it'll be time to sell it or trade it in. My TJ is a keeper... no way will I ever part with it. I did very much enjoy DDing my first TJ and would DD my current one if I wasn't concerned about adding so many miles on it. If the OP isn't interested in off-roading, needs a DD, and can only have one vehicle he should probably just keep his JK.

I DD my TJ, but I love the TJ. It’s the last jeep in my opinion, but that’s just an opinion. I’ve had an infatuation with the TJ since it came out at the end 1996. I have driven tons of vehicles in my short 36 years. It has its own road manners but as far as driving enjoyment I would still grab the keys to my TJ before anything else and that includes a JKU.

Not ridiculous at all. I like driving, especially an interesting, engaging vehicle. The TJ will make you pay more attention to the act/art of driving often (I’d imagine anyway, having only driven a JK once).

Newer cars always do more for you. This could be a good thing of course due to safety, but then again, they are inherently less engaging to drive because it is doing the busy work for you.

I DD my 05 TJ, and I love doing it...mostly...except for the emergency maneuver events on the interstate. During those scary moments I think having abs, stability control, more airbags, etc would be nice. Then it’s off to a side road and I’m having a good time driving again.
