Why would some one put a bigger coil spring in the front?

I'm sure ur right. My confusion I guess was that the back springs measure the same as factory coils. 8" .
And the front were 2" longer than stock. But I definitely don't know about measuring shock lengths and bumper stops. Thanks for helping me!

They could very well be, but springs are effected by alot of variables, they settle overtime, and if youve got a bunch of tools or something in the back you could be seeing it manifested in your shorter measurement.

Its totally possible the previous owner (PO) replaced on the front, but the rig doesn't look that uneven in the one good picture you put up. the sill at the bottom of the rear window should be fairly level with the ground...

Yes sir I've been reading on here a few days without joining. Chris post on lift kits was really good. So we we're thinking we needed a 2.5 " lift plus a 1.25" BL to run 33's. So now I'm guessing we just need a BL and maybe change shocks all the way around to some good ones and we'll be set. Thanks again!!!

you do have a bumpstop extension in the front coils so the front has definitely been messed with.

Didn't think about that. What's advantages or disadvantages of either way? If its that simple wouldn't everyone do that?

Alot of people wheel with a spacer lift. I thought your coils were stock. After seeing the photos and what limited knowledge I have it would drive me nuts not knowing what I had.
If it were me I would have to start over with new coils and shocks. Procomp makes a decent 2" coil .

Thanks. I did read the first part of that post. Which is where I got my info on the height of stock springs. But I didn't read all of it. Sounds like he has a very similar problem. Apparently then it might be just as u said a lift only in the front. Guessing they did that to level the Jeep out . So right now the Jeep has 265/75r16 which are basically 31.5 inches high. In ur opinion what would be easiest way to get it a lil higher so I can run 33's? A BL or spacers?

I read a post the other day where a member posted how he pieces together his own lift from various brands to keep cost down. And he had pro comp or sky jacker. But thanks for the advice

Frankenlift is spelled correctly, I believe. Where can we get the sticker?

Mine has OME springs, chosen by part number. Skyjacker Black MAX shocks, chosen. StreetRays spacers. MOOG stuff, JKS stuff, homemade bump stops from aluminum and hockey pucks. You can get a better lift by asking questions around here and assembling your own lift kit. Some kits have stuff you don't need and are missing things you do need.

Hello everyone. This is my first time posting. We recently got a 05 tj. When we got it I assumed it was at factory height. Never tried putting it in low range till we got home. Would'nt stay in low. Noticed linkage was in a bind. I ordered a drop bracket and it fixed that problem. Been debating on installing a 2.5" lift. Noticed it has rancho shocks on the front and 14" coils. Rear has different shocks not sure what brand and 8" coils. Why would some one put a bigger coil just in the front? To level it? it sits pretty level. Is that why my linkage was binding up? And how do i proceed in looking for a lift? I'm figuring the lifts i've been looking at are gonna come with the size coil I already have in the front. Correct? And currently the jeep doesn't have any big bumpers or winch. But will in the future.

I had the same linkage problem from my transfer case drop. It would engage into 4L, but would pop out when I let off the clutch - 4H worked fine. The simple fix is to replace the factory linkage with a cable shifter. I installed the Savvy one. Fairly straight forward install (with the help of YouTube), and the problem was solved.

spacers is probably the easy button. even a 1 inch BL would require you to pull body mount bolts out (and depending on condition some folks have run into issues) and relocate the fan shroud or run a MML. So some 1inch spacers would be the quickest way. if it was me I would grab some new coils front and rear that way you know exactly what your starting with. once you get them in re-measure and order shocks of the right length for a 50 50 split and adjust bumps accordingly.

several good threads here on cycling the suspension (no springs articulation) and using that to measure for proper bumpstop length.

Idk what the going recommendation on lift height is for 33s these days.

i don't understand, why is it different? the two mounting points for the drivetrain are the motor mounts and the transmission mount. does raising one or dropping the other not result in the same angle change?

is it because the horizontal line through the axle is lower than both ?

I'm saying you can't predict the outcome.
