Teraflex hand throttle adjustments

Just did the Teraflex today. I faintly hear detents if I hold it close but it feels linear when I tested it, much like a friction might. No action for the first several degrees of pull. And I got lucky, I left just enough slack in the loop so it can be slid off the nipple when throttle is fully closed. Didn't max it out for rpm but got it well above 2k at a standstill with plenty of paddle remaining.
Off road testing will wait until I determine suspension changes and button that up.
I did the CSOB version with the Sunrace lever. It has a hint of detent, but really moves like you describe.
It works great, you’re gonna like it. I used it a lot this summer and it’s really convenient.
 
I installed the Tereflex kit and it's very smooth with infinite set ability, no complaints what so ever and I can use it like a cruise control on the highways clear up to around 4000 rpm if needed. You need to re-look at your install.

I can feel positions that the lever rests throughout it's full range.
Same one I have via Teraflex. Feels great to me. Isn't this the one you pictured as well, Jerry?

So, I made my own hand throttle using the same Sunrace friction shifter Teraflex uses, some jacket, cable, ferrules and so on. I followed the instructions on Terfalex's site and I'm not pleased with the results. The routing of the cable is in line with the factory throttle cable & cruise control cable. What I don't like is on the first detent of the friction shifter, engine RPM's jump to 2,000. 2nd, 3,000. I'd like to get 200-250 rpm increase per detent position. Has anyone adjusted and if so, how did you do it?

My thought is to adapt the throttle body to move the cable connection point further from the axis of the throttle body.
If your shifter is indexed, which it sounds like it is by your description, then it’s not a friction shifter/in friction mode, and won’t be as easy to modulate, which is essentially why you want the friction shifter. Some shifters you can turn the little metal thing that’s in the center and it will switch from indexed shifting to friction shifting.

Punching through the ice on the river and my throttle stayed at WOT..Yikes.
Left a loop on the hand throttle connection and here's the result. Hung up on spring.
Modified with loop (Edit: ring) terminal and it's fixed.

Can you post before and after pictures? Not sure exactly what you are talking about.
First pic is before. See the cable loop hooked on the throttle spring? That happened when using the pedal, not the hand throttle. It put slack in the HT cable enough to perfectly grab the spring end and stop the return action.

This pic is after, with ring terminal crimped on the HT cable.

ok, so just making the loop smaller to begin with (so it couldn't reach around the spring) would also prevent this, yes?

I've had a hand throttle in my Jeep parts bucket for almost a year.

Yes, I expect it would. Was going to do that post-failure but the pinch connector would be a bitch to remove so I just went with the ring terminal. I tested one with a scrap of cable, put the terminal in a vice and yanked it with pliers and it held so I'm pretty sure it will be fine as pictured. Was almost sure I'd end up cutting it too short..;) but seem to have gotten it right.

Another thing I noticed is my rear window wiper was on while on the trail. In 1st gear manual the HT handle activated the switch so I had to move it a bit.

Do you have or could you take a photo of what you did bringing the cable through the bracket? Instructions are garbage for those of us with cruise control.
 
Ok that's exactly what I've done, I just wanted to make sure I wasnt doing anything wrong because there wasn't really any positive connection between the cable sheath and the hollow screw. Just kinda sits there held by the wire tension I guess.

MIne seems to be fine, but then I've not used it other than test a bit in the shop. Mine does not rebound when I let go of the handle. I think that function is adjustable with the little hook pin on the handle but I haven't messed with it. Figure I'll use it most for idling up for compressor or winch. Will try it on the trail when I eventually get my 5.13 broken in.
I've also considered another throttle return spring..
