Kentucky Visiting Louisville and vicinity

My wife and I, along with two other couples, are making a trip to Louisville this week. We'll be staying in Bardstown, and doing the distillery thing, mainly. We'll get into town on Wednesday and stay through Sunday. We have a river boat dinner cruise booked Friday night and were also thinking about seeing the Baseball bat factory/museum. Any other "Gotta See" things to do while we're there?

I enjoyed that bat thing. Getting to hold a bat used by Babe Ruth was pretty cool.

Bardstown? You GOTTA see "My Old Kentucky Home"! I think its too early in the year to take in the "Stephen Foster Story" play they put on at nite though. The Lincoln memorial is fairly close by, as is Gethsemani Abbey.

Churchill Downs would be worth a visit methinks - although I've never been there. Its in Louisville about an hour away from Bardstown. OP titled his thread "Louisville", but talks about distilleries and Bardstown, so I'm a bit confused...

There are distilleries in downtown Louisville on whiskey row. They are a few blocks from the Louisville Slugger museum.

I was there for business and we couldn’t get in to any tours as they were all booked up. So instead we drank whiskey.

Largest of the small distilleries, smallest of the big ones.... 1869 Loretto Road.....Back door neighbors to Heaven Hill Brand Experience....Not related, wish I was.....Kentucky Railroad Museum is cool, too....And of course the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green.....

Frazier history museum is across the street from the bat. Started out as Frazier arms museum. Around the corner on market street is a glass blowing shop with a gift shop.There is a science museum very close by which is good for kids. I work next door to the bat at Kentucky mirror. We are a large glazing contractor and not of interest to the public

We got back from our trip early evening on Easter. It was Great! We didn't do anything but wineries and distillery tours...and a tour of liquor stores, LOL. I take that back...we did go to Louisville one night for a dinner cruise on the Belle of Louisville. That was pretty neat, being its an actual steam powered paddle wheeler. I probably could have spent an hour in the engine and boiler rooms!

We went to Marker's Mark, Willet, Barton (1792), Heaven Hill, Bulleit, Buffalo Trace, Castle and Key, Jim Beam, 4 Roses, and Preservation. I think my favorite was Buffalo Trace and / or Maker's (tour, not bourbon).

And the bottles I returned with. I got some Nice bottles, but nothing crazy...I think the bottle of Eagle Rare was the most expensive I bought at 80 bucks (liquor store). I did buy the bottle of Weller Antique for my Father...that was about 120...I already have a bottle of this (randomly found in Michigan for 80 bucks!) I did miss out on getting some Lux Row. It was on the shelf at the distillery, but I hesitated. When I came back, they were sold out. Buddy got one and its good stuff.

I could have also gotten some Very Old St Nick from Preservation. They had a few different bottles at 200 bucks or so...Plus this one for 500!


I can justify 100 bucks for bourbon...but beyond that...I have a hard time spending that money. That is one reason I didn't get the Lux Row. It was 175 for the bottle and I start to wonder if I'll be able to tell the difference.

All in all, it was a great trip.

You will enjoy the Pot Still Reserve....Not the most expensive, but very sippable.......Were you there early enough to get a bottle of the daily issue???

The only problem I have found with Willett Whiskey is that it is not available within 100 miles of me.....

Picture is me in front of the door to the Still house 5 years ago....The day after my birthday....We had gone to the Corvette museum the day before. .Got to see the sinkhole....The Hat is as close as I will ever get to owning a Corvette.......
