Warn winch? M8000 VS M8000s

I'm trying to decide which winch i want? 5/16 cable or 3/8 synthetic rope? Please any input on this subject would be appreciated. Is it worth cost difference? M8000 = $586.00,
M8000s = $765.00 both have $75.00 rebates available?

I have the M8000s. The synthetic rope is worth the extra cost alone even if just for the significant weight savings.

What it comes down to is that synthetic is superior in every way, especially if you do the research. Having been used in maritime operations for a long, long, long time, there's no doubt it can hold up to the abuse. Most guys these days are using synthetic or are planning on switching. There's a reason it's more expensive.

Oh, it's also very, very nice to be able to unravel the winch line and throw it 20 feet to your friend up hill. Try doing that with a steel line!

At that price you may be able to get an aftermarket Synthetic in addition to the steel cable. I’d check into it.

I started with a m8000 a few years ago bought during Warns sale. Used the winch with steel line, just followed all the safety recommendations. Once I had the extra funds I bought synthetic like from Winchline.com with a safety thimble. Warns synthetic like is really nice, but really pricey.

The synthetic line is really nice. FYI I have a Zeon 10 with the Warn spydura synthetic line and a M-8000 that had steel cable then I replaced with master pull synthetic line. The master pull line is much better then the Warn line. Seems to be holding up better, more resistant to abrasion, and spools up better. Like others have said it may be better to get steel cable and replace with synthetic.

X3 to the above recommendations to buy it with the wire rope, then sell the wire rope and rebate $$$ to buy a good quality 3/8" (not 5/16") synthetic rope like from https://www.4lowparts.com/shop/black-winch-rope-black-safety-thimble-2/ which includes the highly recommended Safety Thimble.

My new wire rope sold on Craigslist within a day of posting the ad.

The issue with that company is the original owners are no longer at the helm. We licensed the Safety Thimble to them (original owners) and then one of them moved away and the other was left in charge. He lost interest and handed the product line over to UTP who administers the original Winchline.com product line but due to some serious conflict, they lost the license for the S/T. At that point they succumbed to a different business model and made a copy of the product with a simple round hole in it which is very dumb as it doesn't allow a shackle to fit both ways through the eye. That forces you to use another connector to attach to most bumpers which is again, dumb.

With the advent and escalating use of soft shackles, you need a Thimble that is updated to work better with them and slow down wear. If we can ever get Ricky to update his Tactical Recovery Equipment website with pictures of the newest Thimble, you will be able to see the difference.

What does the newest thimble look like? I just picked up a 9.5CTI with cable, gonna need to change that .

Hmmm, now I need to go see which variety I have. Got my line a few years back based on Jerry’s recommendations on another forum. Just used it last weekend to drag my LJs belly when I got high sided.
