I'm sure I'm going to get some backlash from some people, but here's my opinion. I love the TJ, but here are my issues. TJ's without the 4.0. Tj's without a stick shift. TJ's without the full doors (the zip up ones look like shit sorry). TJ's with the fog lights (they don't really do shit). TJ's with side steps (They cause rust on the frame). JMO you can roast me if you want. But that is my prefect TJ. Please be nice lol

Unlike you, I dislike full doors, they take up too much wall space when I leave them permanently in the garage because it’s a Jeep.

My pet peeve is people that can't spell perfect. 🇺🇸

NOUN
  1. BRITISH
in some schools, a senior student authorized to enforce discipline.
    synonyms:
    monitor · praepostor · prepostor
  2. a chief officer, magistrate, or regional governor in certain countries:
    "the prefect of police"
    • a senior magistrate or governor in the ancient Roman world:

I drive in foggy conditions on the regular, and I assure you, the TJ's fog lights are absolutely critical and work very well, particularly in the summer and autumn at deer-thirty a.m. I swapped my rusted frame, and the sidesteps weren't that bad nor was the frame at the point of attachment. What really causes rust on the frame, in my experience, is the lack of drain holes on the bottom of the frame aft of the front wheels and in front of the rear wheels.

I’m in Texas, and it’s freaking hot, very hot, and I still don’t know why most Jeeps have the top on, let alone full doors. Part of me says “go get an Explorer or whatever, leave the Jeeps to top down folks”. Hot or not, I still want the top down.

I’m still unaware they have Jeeps with Automatic transmissions, not familiar with them, ha

I have full doors, but think the half doors look really cool when the top is down.
I have the 4cyl and it's bullet proof, no power, but that's about to be fixed with re-gearing.
I'd rather have the dependability of the 4cyl, personally. I'm in no hurry.
Fog lights, meh usefulness. But, gotta have em for that Jeep look IMO.
About the ONLY thing I really detest are the Ugly Turd or Darth Vader grilles.

The manual transmission doesn’t do anything for the TJ but make it a little more fun to drive- Then if things get tight and close it makes it less fun-I’ve got one of each transmission-

The 2.5 can be avoided by not buying it

The rest of the list can be changed , most with basic tools

Even the CJ 7 was roomier, less mechanically dense and far simpler- The TJ has about 40 bushings underneath and more moving parts than you can count basically

The Tj looks great, can be climate controlled inside ,holds up well and is more fun than a barrel of monkeys-

I've grown to dislike the 1/2 doors. They are good for one thing and one thing only, running down the highway, when the weather is decent. Where I live it rains regularly and I have to carry soft uppers, for this very reason. The uppers absolutely suck. Visibility is horrible, they are a pain to unzip, never seem to seal correctly, and are noisy. Now I just run full doors year round and ordered a set of aluminum trail doors. Due to the wet trails I run, trails doors are mandatory. If not, you're covered in clay mud or coal swap water! :cautious:

I take it you’ve never owned half doors?
Yes, and I've driven more TJ's with half doors than most on here.
Might change your life…
Absolutely they are life changing. I can't think of a more perfect product or appliance that sucks at what it is supposed to do as much as half doors do. So yes, they take something simple and basic that the entire rest of the automotive world has figured out, then they fuck it all up so it changes your life to just miserable if happen to be one of those who places a modicum of value on things working properly and continuing to work properly.

Yeah, the half doors I picked up are really just for trails...though I'm sure I'll run them frequently. They do look really good with the top down. I ran doorless exactly once on the trail. I'm still cleaning from that mistake. Never again.

I've got a 7 here now that makes any money you've put into any of your TJ's pale in comparison and it is 100% still as God intended a CJ to be.

Well for me anyway, the half doors are good for something - wheelin’ (when it’s dry and warm, anyway…). Much better for visibility in the rocks. But I do agree, the rest of the time I’m running the full doors.

I bet

I’m not sure I think a CJ is that great anymore - it just had a few redeeming qualities

I remember at the time I certainly thought they were the bomb- of course I thought I was too.

You may be cool, you'll never be as cool as a fucking farm jack with a carbon fiber handle.

I had a 304 powered CJ7 that would roll over on command and twist driveshafts like they were made of licorice. That said, I do miss the classic styling. That is hard to beat!

The farm jack was likely cooler, and of more use

If i could have been bought for what I was worth and sold for what I thought- ....

I hate the person I was from about 21-25.

I had the 304 CJ five- It was like the stupidest engine /wheelbase combination history has ever known

It drove so terrible and it sure did not need to be made any faster

We’ve got a really well restored V8 CJ seven in the area

I actually thought that a CJ seven was what I wanted when I got to thinking about getting a jeep again and I had no idea they were antiques- It still makes me smile to see a nice one

But it’s funny how things change

The wider wheel base of the TJ makes it look a lot nicer to me and the CJ does not look as good to me now as it did years ago
