Not on Book-face and never will....I like my privacy, and I'm not a Kardashian so people don't NEED to know what I'm doing every dam minute of the day...My parents are on it and their mid 70's haha plus my sister and they often say ,' but how will we get hold of you?'...my answer is 'the same way you used to.. give me call, its called a phone'...I think speaking face to face is a dying art.

I have facebook for the jeep groups that sale stuff. I found a bunch of camping gear for pennies on the dollar off them. But as far as the social aspect of it, I see no value.

Gave it up 6 months ago and sooooo glad I did! Addictive as hell and nothing good comes from it. Started a instagram and it is just as bad.

Haha, yep, you just jumped from one addiction to the other. You've got to give them all up to feel true freedom. But once you do, you really will feel better, I'm not just saying that either. It's been months now, and I feel so much better in general. I also realize now what a waste of my time it was. All things I never really would have figured out, had I not stopped.

But we don't allow the political stuff, or the silly memes or arguing.
You think it stays cool because we kick people off if they get stupid?
Maybe the fact that it's a closed group keeps everyone in line?

I voted no, but in actuality I don't have a problem with it other than there are too many stupid rules. I actually got kicked off because I didn't use my real name. They sent me an email saying they didn't believe that what I was using was my real name, and I didn't give them any info like address or phone number either. I felt they were too intrusive to my privacy for my taste. I didn't like the fact that they forced things on you like page setup etc, and wouldn't let you opt out. They had too much control, and were too intrusive.

I think @Kiwi said that he prefers the phone. I am the opposite. Call me if it is an emergency or send me an email or gchat. The reason why is I am just way too busy most days to stop and talk on the phone. But emails are great because details are written down, and I can reply when I have time. Now a days I work pretty much the whole day, and nothing gets done over the week, so I need to do home stuff on the weekend. I have Motorcycles, quads, RV, Tj, a truck and a house to keep running. So I am always working on something over the weekend. I don't usually stop except to post here of course.

The reason I bring this up is I think Facebook is awesome to keep up with friends and family when you are busy, but it security is tough and they don't really relinquish enough control for my taste.

Once they kicked me because I wouldn't give them my real name they closed my account. I didn't replace it with any other tool. I was thinking about google+, but google isn't known for keeping apps and I am always afraid to get too vested in them for fear that they will kill the project. Plus I only know a handful of people actually using it.

So now the best way to get a hold of me is here, gchat, or email. hehe.

That's totally fair, I don't necessarily tell people not to call me, but it may be weeks before I call them back. Most people learn that is the worst way to get a hold of me. As you can tell, I am not the most social guy.

I have an account but the -only- reason I have an account is so I can administer a Facebook page for my dad’s business - basically free advertising. I think I have about 30 “friends” which consists of family members and actual friends that I speak with, text, and/or see on a regular basis.

The only person I have as a “friend” that I don’t actually know is Richard Patrick, the lead singer for Filter and original guitarist for Nine Inch Nails. He actually sent me a friend request after I trolled his band (Filter) page, calling him an egomaniac for “ditching his friend, Trent Reznor”.

I don’t use it to keep up with people or to chat with people. I follow a couple Porsche groups and look at the pretty pictures from time to time; I don’t post anything unless it’s for my old man’s business. I don’t do status updates or notify the world when I’m taking a shit.

I hate it and wish I could just completely get rid of it... but my dad is computer illiterate and he needs to advertise on the medium that a bunch of mindless drones are addicted to.

I have my account locked down as much as possible. People can’t post anything to my wall, they can’t tag me, or do any of that other bullshit.

A friend of mine is a private investigator and he uses Facebook all the time to track people down or find out basic information on them since Facebook idiots post all their private/personal stuff online.

Also, it’s bad for me because I frequently get messages and friend requests from women that I’ve known from years ago who want to NETFLIX AND CHILL. No thanks!

Haha, I feel your passion on the whole hating Facebook thing.

Actually, one of the reasons I hate Facebook so much is that they require you to have a personal profile in order to administer a business page. Being as though my full time job is that of a web designer, guess how many of my clients want me to create a Facebook business page for them? A LOT! That grinds my gears that Facebook wants me to have a personal account to do that, so what I did is made a dummy personal account with a fake name, no pictures, and no posts. That way I can only login when I need to administer their pages or develop a Facebook app for the.

Other than that, I have nothing to do with Facebook whatsoever.

I've said it once and I'll say it again, if you don't know how Facebook is trying to destroy the internet, you really need to look into it more. It's not just a conspiracy theory either, it's the truth.

I find this discussion fascinating.

Possible that FB is dying?

I know a lot of people that had FB that now appear inactive. I checked the other day when this discussion started.
I count exactly 1 of my friends out of about 25 that I know used to be fairly active that no longer appear to be. They still have pages but posts are sporadic and seem to have dropped off to very few per month or none at all.
I also know more than a few that have moved to other forms, like Twitter, and then vanished. My cousin was a FB monster, then Twitter. Now he's awol from both and said that he just lost interest and eventually the "novelty wore off". His words.

My kids tell me that FB is "for "old people" and they laugh at my wife and her friends. It appears that FB is becoming the almost the exclusive domain of women as well.

Thoughts?.

I agree that FB is seemingly geared more towards women which is VERY apparent in my household......wife and 2 daughter's are hypnotized by it.
That and some other junk site , Snapchat i believe.

Regarding my phone ?
I carry it sparingly but it is a valuable tool in the outdoors ,TOPO maps and GPS.

It sounds very much like you've got a good forum setup on FB. Which makes all the difference.

As far as the FB dying thing, it will most certainly die. Probably sooner than everyone thinks. People are slowly catching on and ditching it.

I'll play. It's evolved into the massive surveillance tool that MySpace never was (similar to how google learned from Bill Gates' mistakes in not "playing ball"). It is amazing how quickly society has been engineered and conditioned to view folks that see it for what it really is and those that would never use it, as weird and creepy people with something to hide.

The millennial / snowflake generation is solidifying that idea, born into feeling naturally compelled to either buy someone else's bullshit or sell them their own. Let's face it, that is what the majority of it is.

I do think that the numbers are wrong though. US media would have you believe that the mass majority of people are ok with having every thing recorded and used against them in a (FISA) court of law - all in the name of stopping the turrists. Truth is, there have been studies and polls that show the numbers to be 2 to 1 for those that have grave concerns over their privacy, and fear the big data collection (and subsequent analytics) that are being performed by certain governments and private companies - both of which have very specific use cases for all of your private information.

I'm personally a Gen-X'r that is old enough to remember the stories (scare tactics) that were fed to me as a school kid, about how evil the Soviets were to their people - and how they spied on their own kind.

The propaganda is thicker now than it was back then. It isn't until the consumers stop consuming and vanity and superficiality are deprioritized that shit will never change. Given the growth rate of the world's population, there's no end to it.

Facebook will be a massive graveyard within the next decade anyway. Young kids today don’t even use it as they think it’s for “old” people. The number of users who had accounts and have actually died probably ranges in the millions already.
