Does anyone have a good way to get the two rear body mount bolts out when they just spin? I have cut a small hole to access the threaded end of the bolt and hosed them both down with some penetrating oil. I’m thinking about trying to weld the metal with the threads in it to the tub if I can get my stinger in there anyways. At least if I’m able to tack it down it will be solid for future fastening of the bushings. My main problem is that the clearance is minimal and I can only use a flex shaft dremel to do the cutting.

Take a small drill bit and drill straight up through the nut plate. Take a punch and stick it through the hole you just made. Take your impact and remove bolt

So you’re saying to come in from the hole I I cut open or up through the bushing? But I do see what you’re saying about being able to hold the nut plate in place with that route

Yes drill towards the sky...you just want to be able to hold the nut still...drill through everything in the way

You could weld it but it's going to be tough with all of the panther piss you hosed in there

Well I’ll need a long drill bit or possibly remove the rear bumper to get at it like that. I have to put a 4”-5” extension on my impact to get on the bolt head. I’ll look into it though and thanks for the reply

You could try and get your gun in there and weld it but it's going to be a shitty porous weld and may not hold.

I guess you could always cut another opening and try to get vice grips on the nut but most people aren't going to want to hack the tub up that bad...but then again people cut fuel pump access holes in tubs all th time and don't blink an eye...all personal preference

Yea I’ll weld it back closed if I can get a permanent fix for the nut plate. I have looked into the way it was originally constructed and it was a pretty flimsy set up so if I can’t get a new nut or maybe a rivnut insert in there I may leave it open or a hinged access panel or something. I’m not concerned about looks as my TJ will not be winning any beauty pageants anytime soon lol just looking for a functional solution. I’m working on replacing the body mounts and channels on the tub that have rusted out. The middle and rear ones on either side by the doors. I jacked it up enough to barely get the drivers side cut out and welded in but can’t get to the ones before the gas tank because the ones on the rear. I twisted the tub a little in doing so since the two rear bolts are stuck.

I had to get the body bolts from the top on my rusty CJ. The plan was to precisely locate the bolts from above and drill a nice circular hole right over the bolt head. I could then put a socket on them to keep them from spinning. I was then going to use a drain plug type grommet to close up the hole.

But instead I set it on fire and collected the insurance money. Good riddance to that POS.

The bolts look like they sit under the wheel well part of the inside back cargo area on my TJ but it could be possible that I could access them through a hole in that. My insurance company wouldn’t let me put anything but liability on mine so it’s basically worthless in their eyes lol

I got lucky, mine were so far gone that everything just fell out once i cut it open.

Looks like you went the same route as I did. Lol the can opener approach seemed like my best bet initially but so far I haven’t really tried anything past cutting the holes to see the bolts

Crappy situation to be in. We were able to drill ours out, but yours are spinning, so all I can say is good luck, and I’ll think on it.

Yea originally my older Milwaukee impact wouldn’t budge the bolts so I bought a new high torque Milwaukee impact and it had no trouble removing the other bolts and even sheared the one in the front off lol I know there has to be other people out there that have kicked this problems ass because I’ve seen some rusty ass jeeps like mine lol

Can you get to it from the wheel well? You don’t have evap back there. Maybe that’s where your access hole is. I know some have built an entirely new crossmember there that houses the body mount. Pain…

Yea I’m in the rear wheel well working towards rear bumper.

As bad as they are, could you cut the head off the bolt and punch the shank up through the holes you cut?

It’s possible to cut the head off the bolts. I spent about 10 minutes using a dull saw blade and got about 1/4 of the way through. Those bolts are surprisingly hard as shit lol. I have new bolts so the old one is set for destruction. If I only had a cutting torch or plasma cutter I could zip it right off there.
