Mastercraft vs PRP seats (pros and cons)

Many of us live nowhere near a single showroom where we can sit in seats. Best we can do is sit in the few options found in other rigs, read various opinions here, then order and hope for the best.

Very true. I know a couple people have sat in my Mastercrafts and then ordered some. @DaveF is one who may be close to you.

It took me about 18 mos before I pulled the trigger on the Baja RS's. I sat in @Apparition jeep, I sat in @Alex01 jeep and a few others before I decided the Mastercraft's were the most comfortable for me. Not one showroom here in the Bay Area I could visit to try any seats out which makes it tough to drop some serious coin on seats you may not like...or may not even fit in your Jeep...I am very happy I took the time...

Hey guys we do have dealers in OR with enduro elites if that helps! If you want to email me at [email protected] I can try and find a dealer near you with seats in there showroom!

The wife and I had a trip to southern California, so I suggested a couple hour side trip to PRP. We got to try all the models right in the showroom along with harnesses before pulling the trigger and placing our order. I will say I had my mind made up going in as to what I was going to buy, but after sitting my ass in a few different models my mind was changed. Truly a custom seat and the customer service was awesome. Very patient, offered suggestions but never pushed one way or the other. Should see them mid September.

Hello everyone. My first post. Great forum. Glad I found it! I'm currently dealing with the seat upgrade conundrum. I agree that one should definitely sit in a seat before buying it. I took a trip to PRP when I was down in southern California recently and didn't love their seats. I found them all to be well made and quite comfortable, but there was something about each one that bugged me enough to not buy, or at least try a few more brands before making a decision. I haven't had a chance to sit in a Mastercraft seat yet.

I'd welcome any thoughts on how PRP and Mastercraft's seats are different in terms of fit. My main question, however, pertains to mounting. My mechanic talked me into into some seats he likes that proved to be all kinds of wrong. Long story short, he modified the seat mounting brackets and I'm going to need to replace them before I get new seats.

I've got a 99 TJ but am thinking about getting the 03-06 brackets. My understanding is that most aftermarket seats get raised at least an inch when used with the 97-02 brackets, but that the 03-06 brackets keep the seat closer to factory height. Is that true? Since I'm replacing the brackets anyway, should I stick with my model year's bracket or go 03-06? Thoughts?

I used factory bases but made my own brackets. There was a lot of trial and error before I got the height and angle to my liking. The manufacture brackets did not put me where I felt comfortable. I still need to make one more adjustment to move the seats about one more inch inboard, but very happy so far.

I've got the seats off my bases if you want pictures of the brackets with measurements. I have a 1997 TJ and Mastercraft seats.

That would be great! Thanks! Why did you choose Mastercraft?

Back when I'd bought mine Mastercraft seats were about all that were available. I bought them in 2006.
I'm at an appointment with the VA today but will get some measurements tomorrow.

Welcome to the Forum, I have the MasterCraft Baja RS seats on factory 2000 brackets and I don’t notice any issues with the seat height being too low. I’ve had these for about 8 or 9 years and am very happy with them so far.if you need some measurements let me know, also @mvigo has MasterCrafts on later model brackets and may be able to take some measurements too.

@TahoeTJ, as @DrDmoney said, I just installed the Mastercraft Baja RS's in my '04 Rubicon and love them. I installed them with their adapter brackets on my OEM brackets and they definitely sit higher than OEM. I am 5'10" so no problem for me, if you need measurements, just ask...you can see them in my thread here:

mvigo's build thread post #161 if the link doesn't take you straight to the post...

I'm 5' 10" also and a little on the chubby side (240 lbs) but fit nicely into my seats. And they are comfortable to sit in on the trail for 8-10 hours and aren't a PITA to get in & out of.

I used to have Scat ProCar seats in it.

They were harder to get in & out of for comparison.
