Rear seat differences across years

I have a 2002 in need of a rear seat. Looks like none of the hardware & bracketry is there, so I don't really know what it's supposed to have. I know there are variations in rear seats across the model years, so I don't know what years are directly compatible, and then what year's hardware I need to source, and if any years are a pure no-go.

Anybody have guidance here?

I have a line on one that is a decent fabric match (not close to exact, but similar enough that I'm willing to go with it) but I don't know what year it is out of. It has the plastic handle thing on the upper back to make it fold & tumble if that helps ID it.

From what I can remember the 97-02 seats use the same bracket with the tumble feature being the bottom back left side while 03-06 back seats have the tumble feature on the top middle of the back support and uses a different bracket system. This was just the first place I found them but that’s the style if your back seat is also an early model tj back seat

fronts line up, rears need drilling through the tub.

i switched from an early to a late seat to have the LATCH system which was only on the later seats. made some plates to reinforce under the tub for the rear bracket and all was good.

i switched back to the early seat after i didn't need the LATCH anymore since the early seat was easier to convert into a subwoofer box.

i have the brackets laying around somewhere.. i'll see if i can find em for ya

He is referring to an old write up (see this link for some details: https://wranglertjforum.com/threads/does-any-one-have-the-plans-to-sirgcals-subwoofer-seat.32919/ ) that gave you exact measurements in order to build a custom subwoofer box that was built INSIDE the back seat. The measurements where for the older year seats. You would have had to come up with your own measurements for the newer style seat yourself, which were not listed in the original how to write up. Like this:

the instructions i had from sirgcal’s seat were for the early seat, but the picture by picture instructions were for the newer seat.

i ended up doing my own measurements either way because i don’t trust your measuring skills if i haven’t personally seen you measure something accurately before. it was the plan all along anyway since i needed a bit more internal cubic volume for my subs.

i took both seats down to the metal frame and after making a template for the mounting panel i noticed that the frame of the earlier seat could be made a bit bigger by protruding more from the bottom of the metal seat frame whereas the newer seat didn’t allow for as much drop due to the fold and tumble mechanism.

after that, it’s not hard to make the templates for each cut. happy with my decision.. it sounds fucking mint.
