So I bought a used Dana 44 no idea what year, all I know is it had drum brakes. I bought a rebuild kit from East Coast Gear supply and all of the shims do not match what I pulled off. For the pinion depth, the kit came with shims that go behind the bearing race and I do not recall having any shims behind the race I pulled out. There was only one shim and no oil slinger between the bearing and the pinion head. The carrier shims in the kit look to be designed to go between the carrier and the bearing. The only shims I recall went between the housing and the bearing race.
Did I order the wrong kit, or was I supposed to setup using a different style of shimming? I swore I kept everything together, but earlier this summer I had to get everything out of my garage since someone ran into it so maybe I lost some parts in the move, but I do not think that was the case.
