Rock Sliders / Rocker Guards Guide

Opinions on Big Daddy Sliders?

Currently wavering between those and Rock Hard 4x4. Those are the two that are in my current budget. Jeep use is mainly for getting to camping sites.

I had not seen that slider before, but I could never identify the ones on my sons Rubicon. They look a lot like those BD. Just don’t have the insignia, but may be an older model. Drill another hole along the top edge and a few more underneath into the torque boxes. Use nutserts for all.

My phone won't even let me open it.

Yeah Google Chrome tosses an alert because the security certificate doesn't match the url. The certificate is from JToutfitters.com. The contact phone number on both websites are the same. Guess I will send them an email see what I get for a response. Though after reading Google Reviews and the company responses I think I am going take them off the list as options. Thanks guys

@ JMT I think I found some budget friendly form over function slider

https://taboocustoms.com/store/jeep-tj-unlimited-sliders-no-tube

They’re less then $200 and do not appear to tie into body mounts.

They currently only have lj sliders because they stopped producing them and that’s overstock leftover but they said if they see a reason to come back in the market they definitely would.

Thoughts anyone?

Tag me next time correctly so it notifies me. No space between the @ symbol and JMT.

There’s not much steel underneath the leading edge. Looks like an inch or two wide. That’s not enough.

oops didn’t realize that I put that space 🤦🏼‍♂️

I don’t even get notifications anymore. If I did I wouldn’t get much real work done! 🤣 As it is, I just happened to see the post.

The price is cheap for a 3/16” steel slider, but I do worry about the lack of steel underneath the tub. It would be nice to get some measurements of that section from the company.

@Blake Stamper,

Also, there’s no mention of a CNC press, so the two pieces may just be welded together. Not enough mounting holes on the side or on bottom. Lots of questions left unanswered. Strange they would make for the LJ and not the TJ since TJ’s are far more common.

@JMT i definitely agree the description is super vague and they no longer produce either, the LJ sliders are just pieces they have leftover from when they did make them, I was just thinking for the guy that can’t spend 700 on a proper form over function slider, it would be a better choice than a cheap body mount mounted on.

It looks like it uses two bolts towards the rear. It also doesn't seem to be that hard to add a couple extra bolts up front to mount to the torque box.

There should be about 7 per side. Add up the costs of hardware and tools to make that happen. Then factor in that there is no mention of internal backer plates. Do all that, and you still have a slider with a sharp 90° corner that doesn't slide over the rocks as well as it could. And these are not WW2WW unless the Jeep has fenders with the rear wall moved backwards.

The slider looks like it has a slight double bend and a backing plate wouldn't take very long to make. They don't check all the boxes but I would still think these are better than the factory rubicon sliders which aren't ww2ww.

If the Rubicon slider is the bar being set, then one is really no better than the other.

Has anyone seen these sliders from Cavfab? It looks like they mount to the side and bottom of the tub and is cheap at $250. Thoughts?

There does appear to be a double bend in this photo and in the one you posted from underneath.

The torque boxes are not level on a TJ, so you need a spacer on the higher one to bridge the gap. There appears to be something in that area in this photo, but it’s unclear what it is.

Their description says they tie into the body mounts, which is a bad idea. Let the body mounts do what they do, and don’t put another function on them.

It’s unclear if they are ww2ww due to the other mods like HiLine on that test fit rig. I doubt it. There are not enough mounting points into the torque boxes, so aim for altering the bottom to stay away from the body mounts and tie into the torque boxes. No mention of backing plates. You can probably fix everything but the ww2ww, but is it worth it?
