Can you just remove a flex plate from a 4.0 engine and put a flywheel on it so I can bolt up a manual transmission to it?

Yes a flywheel will just bolt up but as above you'll also need to install a pilot bearing for the manual transmission's input shaft.

I was just saying I'm doing a complete rebuild and putting a new crank in, so I should be good.... Thanks for the feedback

A pilot bearing is something not installed in an engine bolted up to an automatic tranny. I doubt a machine shop is going to install one for you unless you specify.

It's pretty straight forward. Just look at the pic above and compare to what you get from the shop. If it's not there, tap over in and bolt up your flywheel.

Some of the 4.0 autos more specifically the 42RLE have a bushing in the crank that will have to be removed to go manual.
