More from our trip to Red Cone.

Colorado ohv laws are so confusing to me. I've never been able to figure out how to get a permit for my Jeep, just ATVs, UTVs, and SxSs.

cpwshop.com — when you go to OHV registration, you select the option for OHV pass for licensed vehicle. Or, you can just stop in an office (park visitor's center or 6060 Broadway, for example), and buy one in person.

For some reason, I could never figure that out, thank you. To be fair the CPW website is pretty terrible.

Ah now I remembered what originally confused me. It said that you needed to be registered as an OHV to operate on all public lands, but not all public lands require highway legal vehicles to be registered as OHVs. Either way the CPW Shop website drives me crazy.

That is true that not all public lands require OHV permits for licensed vehicles. Statute requires the permit when you operate a licensed vehicle on "trails." Evidently, the relevant land managers have been designating a number of routes as trails. CPW shop can be a little confusing, but Stay the Trail has some good information:

It was an awesome trail with great scenery and epic views! We saw a moose on our way out. I'm sorry I wasn't able to socialize more with everyone.

Josh, I hope you got your problem sorted out.

My friend Dave (in the 4 Runner) sent me this today. I don't know any details, but it looks like it was pretty low on the trail:

The SxS happened today I believe. It's right at the beginning of the trail by the intersection. FAFO
