Re-gearing for 35s (need some build advice)

I’ve actually found the gears at Amazon. So I may be just going around them and going that way!

Be careful with that. I also did that, waited 2 months and ended up being mailed a letter that said don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten about you but we don’t have your gears yet.

They sent the letter bc Amazon requires you to mail package in X amount of time.

I hope it works out for you, but I’d be very skeptical and read all the reviews.

I'd be pissed. I don't trust parts sold on Amazon. I've seen a few counterfeit parts being passed off as OEM.

i had less than ideal service from Revolution and ended up buying new Revolution gears from a reseller on eBay.

The Savvy approach I don't understand how these companies stay in business. If you can't get ahold of them to take your money, what happens if something goes wrong?

I disputed with my credit card company. They took my money, told me they were shipping parts and then never did. Did a month of follow ups and kept getting run around (after asking for a refund).

I didn't really like these fenders when I saw them in the wild. Probably listened to the guys on this site that are all about their jeeps looks.
I would not use any other fenders if I were to build another rig. I love everything about these fenders. I especially love that I can look out the side of my jeep and not see a piece of flat fender. These fenders are for drivers not lipstick mall crawlers.

So are you locked in on an axle then?

Yeah locked in on my stock setup.

Dana 30/35 Super 35 rear with a re-gear to 4.56 or 4.88, have not decided yet, steering away from 5.13 because the pinion will be tiny and I'd rather not. OX locker at least in the rear but might lock the front as well while I'm in there.

Shes under the knife right now getting new ball joints and that Currie HD steering setup. Cleaning up the C's and knuckles new wheel hubs, it's not my daily and I take it off insurance in the winter because soft top cold.

When, not if, the 35 shits the bed on me and I get to take the trail of shame pushing the wheel back in every 20 feet then so be it. I am ready for it and I wheel accordingly. That's just the reality of it. I will go to an aftermarket Dana 489 axle after that but right now I will work with what I got. I'd rather spend 2 grand on parts than 6 grand on an axle at the moment.

You're listening to the WRONG people when they tell you that the 5.13 pinion is too tiny and will be an issue. There are more than one member here that has 5.13 in their Jeep and they aren't breaking parts. You'll kick yourself if you don't go with the 5.13 gears. Back when I did my gear swap the lowest was 4.88's but if 5.13's were available I would have gone with them. I'd do a little more research before writing them off.

2nd on 5.13s. Shops will tell you 5.13s are too small because they dont want customers to call back with a broken pinion and try to blame it on them (after the customer was bouncing on rocks)

Users here will tell you its fine.

Exactly why I haven't pulled the trigger on gears yet. Still researching to see if what they said is actually an issue. Thanks!

Just an update for anyone interested. I had 2 shops nearby come back to me with quotes in the Denver/Castle Rock Area.

Double locker and re-gear with a super 35 kit is 5.4k from one shop and 5.5k from another 3.5k in parts 1.5k in labor. I intend on doing the work myself I just wanted to justify it. Maybe I will have to spin up a build thread to document it for folks that are interested in how a DIY re-gear holds up... HA

The cost is high, but ask yourself if you want to learn (and intend on doing this again in the future). If you dont foresee other rigs needing gears done Id pay up. Gears are hard, take a lot of time to do right and require some special tools.

I did my own, but thats because I will regear other rigs in the future. Was worth the pain to learn.
