What did you do to your TJ today?

That would definitely be better than painting just to get the exact match…I was expecting $500 - $1000… I suspect he is “taking real good care of you”… it pays to have friends…

I greatly doubt I am getting that much of a deal. The trade off is that I basically tell him to do them when he can.. no pressure. Most of the time he gets things back to me in a week or two but sometimes it’s longer. For instance, he is dying the soft upper door pin tops to match the door panels. He’s had them for more than a month. No big deal for me as I won’t hang the doors until spring.

The door cards..I paid $200 to dye the door cards, the door pins and the upper and lower steering column trim.

The doors...$400 to remove the hinges & weather stripping, strip the old paint, paint the doors, inside and out, the hinges and bolts.

I think I IDed the next transmission leak. Here is a pic. I am seeing a lot of red transmission fluid around this area. Whenever I spray it off with brake cleaner, the flow pattern of the brake cleaner matches the flow pattern of where I'm seeing the transmission fluid leaking.

So, what is this area and how do I fix it?

Today I finished the base of my speaker/storage box for the back of my TJ

Replaced my tired looking original fender flares with the Rough Country flares that are about the width of Rubicon flares. Installation was pretty straightforward, the hardest part was getting the rear inner fenders out of the way.

The RC flares aren't as thick as the OEM, but the holes lined up well. They were missing 1 hole on each of the fronts, but it was easy enough to match them up with the opposite flare and drill the hole.

I wish it were that easy for me. The InstaTrunk is the same height as you storage deck but has weather stripping that seals against the inside of the tailgate so no room for the table to fold against the tailgate.

Mine seems sufficient at this point. It won't support a concrete block like the one @jscherb made but it is fully removable and supports more than I have on it in the pictures. I made a mount for the propane bottle so it isn't just hanging off the tailgate lock. That was just proof of concept.

On a different note. I have that three legged stool. Works great but can't sit in it for too long because it crushes my nuts and it tends to sink in fairly easily And, I have a similar butane burner but don't use it too much. I just grab my backpacking kit when I go. I have a bunch of burners that can use iso-butane, butane or propane.

Who makes the kettle with the heat exchanger on the bottom?

Oh you mean the 'nut-cracker stool ' yeah that stool does the same to me haha... I dont sit on it long.
The kettle is made buy a company called 'Fire-maple' you can find them on Amazon Im sure... its small, light weight and boils the water fast.what more do you need
As for my storage in the back of the TJ, its evolved over the years, as my kids got older and have their own cars not need for a back seat anymore.... Im just about to change it up again as Id like to be able to fit everything in the back including my half doors. (but that will take some working out)...watch this space haha.

Getting back to a few things now that the holidays are over and I can spend some time in the garage. Did the Toyota light upgrade, talk about plug and play, dang. Wired in an Auxbeam panel button to the air compressor so now I can either turn the compressor on from inside the cab for running lockers or from the engine bay to air up tires. Reconfigured the ARB wiring harness so I can turn on/off the front and rear locker solenoids independently from the Auxbeam panel. Now I just have to mount up the ARB locker manifold and wire it all up.

Scored a set of Rubicon flares with bonus front fenders all for $50.

Only down side is that the driver side front flare is warped a bit from being stored improperly.

I haven't even began to mess with them yet, but any ideas on how to try to straighten this out? Wondering if just sitting in my heated shop with no stress for a few days will allow it to straighten out on its own, but I'm usually not that lucky.

Looks like the gear selector lever. Probably just needs a new seal.

You could try heating it up with a heat gun or hair dryer.

I've got some bar clamps on it at the moment, but upon further inspection, these aren't as pristine as I thought. Definitely still usable, just going to take more work than I initially realized, so I'm no longer concerned with preserving the original finish.

The fronts have a couple of scuffs/gouges. I'll probably talk to my buddy that has a body shop and see what he recommends for getting these looking like new again. If it's more effort than I want to put into it, I'll just keep my eye out for some front flares in better shape, or cave and buy the RC flares. Regardless, for $50, I didn't get hurt.

I don't think anyone could sit in that for long.

I am familiar with Fire Maple. Looks like it is a 0.8 liter. I have the GSI 1 liter kettle. They look to weigh the same. Give up a little volume in exchange for the heat exchange. Most of the time, when using propane or butane the heat exchange won't make much of an improvement in boil times. I do use mine on open flame which might muck up the heat exchange fins. Always a tradeoff.

I still have my back seat in. It's rarely used but when I need it, I need it. When camping I basically grab my backpacking kit with only a few extras (like the kettle, axe and propane), and I attach the Bestop cargo basket so I am not really challenged with storage.

How do you guys find such good deals? Never in the history of forever would there be a pair of TJ fenders for that price around here.
