Stub shaft question

In the process of rebuilding front end (learning as I go) and when pulling the axle shaft to change u joint I noticed the teeth on the end of the stub shaft.
I don't have abs lines running to the wheel. Does that part have to do with abs? I don't see it on most of the replacement stub shafts when I do a google search. Could I buy new stub shaft without it. If so, recommendations / any part numbers would be helpful. Thanks

Yes that gear-looking device, called the tone wheel, is for the ABS sensor. If you don't have ABS you don't need it.

I'm wondering if it can be easily removed? Is the shaft different aside from having the tone ring installed?

So, if I was lazy and didn't want to clean / rebuild the axle shaft, I could just buy a new one without the tone ring. Nothing else would be messed up? Any recommendations on a quality replacement besides mopar, don't need anything to crazy as its really a daily driver

Spicer PN for the stub is 43205. ABS ring is PN 44646 or non ABS use dust slinger PN 40589.

If you don't have ABS yes. A stock replacement from a reputable place should be sufficient.

Gotcha. I ordered the upgraded spicer u joints with intention to rebuild the current axle shaft but it's being a real PITA to get the ujoints out. I found the stub shaft at a decent price on amazon. Not really seeing many options for the the inner part of the shaft. Anyone know if this is a possibility to buy the parts separate or are the shafts pretty much sold as a whole unit?

Maybe by cutting a slot into the side of it but its presence is not hurting anything. That tone wheel was on all TJ axle shafts whether the TJ had ABS or not.

I bought a stub shaft from this seller on Ebay. No issues.

This listing comes with a u-joint, but there are others with just the stub shaft
