A rebuild of #miRustyJeep...

I'm going to try something different for finishing than normal. I want to paint match the corners, but I plan on doing a full recolor, eventually. I don't want to set up and paint them yet though, so I've ordered some vinyl wrap. It will be a good experiment to see how long it lasts around here, with the trees constantly reaching into the trails looking to make their mark on my Jeep.

Congrats on the GR armor. That's not a bad price considering. Several of us were probably waiting for Savvy at $475, but that hasn't happened. I found mine used through Alex01 in CA, so I was fortunate he brought them to me at Moab. I think I paid $1300 for the corners and the front fenders, so it wasn't a much better deal than what you're getting. Maybe you could have saved some on the backing plates by doing it yourself. 🙂 All in all a nice upgrade. I look forward to seeing your wrap. If anyone has the patience to figure it out it's you Mike.

The backing plates were pretty inexpensive considering...and 1300 for corners and fenders is a great deal...considering the fenders and inners are now over 1000 buy them selves.

I've given up on Savvy at this point. If I ever get to a point that I'm regularly expereincing wheel hop on climbs, I'll figure that out with a little help from my WTJF friends.

And they paid for themselves on day 1, as you probably recall.

Way better than denting up the tub and then trying to beat it out well enough to install armor. I think we can figure out the mid-arm if we ever need to. Or try Jim Frens method and just lower the rear CA 1" at the frame. 😂

Yeah, I remember. I'm gonna be honest...not having armor is always in the back of my mind when I go on my bigger trips (like when I was in Kentucky last year). I don't know if it really keeps me from trying stuff, but I do have a desire not to flop, and I really don't want to mess this thing up. So, I'm happy to have finally made the purchase and it will quell one of the little nagging voices in my head. The armor will help keep it straight and nice and I can maybe relax a little.

Finished up all the installation tonight. Still need to bleed and bed in the pads. I'll get them bled tonight and maybe tomorrow or Saturday I'll get them broken in.

And for those on the fence...just get the kit. Its big and beefy and satisfing to look at. I always thought the stock knuckles looked a bit spindly. Blaine has beefed up the knuckles a bit and they don't look spindly at all. They look like they should

And, its hard to describe the size difference between an 11" and 12" rotor, until you have them in your hands...but it is a lot. Its shockingly larger. The whole system is just so much bigger. I can't wait to go drive it.

I gave up on Savvy corners and also went Genright for my LJ. They had free shipping for BF and gave me another 5% off on top of that when adding fenders to the order. I didn't order the backing plates figuring I'd just make my own.

Man that looks good. Once I'm rolling on 33s I plan on getting one of his brake kits. Ever since I did the swap I feel like I'm mashing the brakes to stop my 32s. They're adequate for now but I would love to find out what these feel like.

Broke the new pads and rotors in yesterday. After another quick bleed today, I went for a drive. All I can say is WOW. The brakes are SO much better. Its not just about having the power to lock the tires (I do). Its about the feel and the control. Once I get used to these and they are fully broken in, I know I'll be able to threshold brake with them better than I have any business being able to in a "Jeep."

If you're thinking about getting a set...just do it. Seriously...Its worth the money, esp if you need new brakes anyway. I wish I would have done it sooner.

This is WAY up on the list of favorite mods so far...along with the Sway loc and the Auto Transmission.

My favorite part of the BBK is the level of modulation and control they provide during the act of braking.

Thank you for saving me the trouble to remind you to do a quick bleed the next day after all the small bubbles settle out next to each bleeder. Stupid modern masters do that for some dumb reason and we always have to do a quick 1-2 pump bleed the next day to get rid of that last tiny bit of sponginess in the pedal.

I am exceptionally pleased they are working for you as I designed them to.

I expected the backer plates to be aluminum…and instead it’s a piece of steel angle.

Not sure what I think about that. The part’s edges are also SHARP. They said finishing is required, I guess they weren’t kidding!

Yup, I was surprised myself. The ones from Savvy are much nicer.

Their mini boatsides have the same piece of steel. And it isn't long enough for where it is supposed to go. It caught me by surprise when I saw it.

Some aluminum goodies showed up today…

They are extra sharp now. They need to tune up their laser a tad. This makes short work of the sharpness and if you use the rounding cutter, it does just that.

Works equally well on steel and aluminum.
